Track and Field
Important news: Vets Track and Field match 4 is now at Portsmouth not Winchester. Sadly our track will not quite be ready in time for the final match of this season, so Portsmouth have very kindly agreed to provide the facility however we are still the hosts. It is important to have a good showing at this final match to help support, officiate, compete just as if it was taking part in Winchester. Please can you try and make an effort to be there?

As ever. availability to me asap. Key events to fill are the ladies 5000m run and 2000m walk, pole vault and 4 x 200m relay, and the mens 2000m walk, pole vault and 3000m, plus 4 x 200m relay.

Help WADAC to Secure £50,000 Funding from Norwich Union
WADAC has an opportunity to secure £50,000 funding from the Norwich Union via its Join Our Team initiative. To do this we need your votes. Since our last appeal our bid has moved 10th to 8th place in the South East, with a total of 198 votes. This is going in the right direction but is not good enough to succeed. Please see this message from coach Ewan Simmons, who is striving tirelessly to secure votes, for details of how to help.

Cape Wrath Marathon
Malcolm Green & Steve Goodwin recently travelled to Durness on the North West coast of Scotland to take part in the Cape Wrath Marathon. This off-road marathon, described as "what could be the toughest marathon in the UK", is unusual is that you are ferried by a motorboat to the start, then commence the race in small groups, by running to the Cape Wrath Lighthouse and back (22 miles). The race clock is then paused briefly while competitors are then ferried back, for the start of the final uphill 4.5 miles to the finish in Durness. Malcolm finished in 3rd position in a time of 3:25:02 & Steve was 15th in 3:50:48. New: see photos from Cape Wrath.
Marshals wanted
- Race for AAIR
We need marshals for the WADAC-hosted Race for AIIR (8th June). The most important aspect of any event is the safety of the runners , officals and the public and to meet this requirement we require people to act as marshals around the course and within the start and finish areas. In addition helpers are also needed to hand out medals and water to incoming runners. As well as raising funds for the club and more importantly Asthma Allergy Information Research (AAIR) this years race incorporates a Hants Road League Race the 10th and last run of the series. To volunteer please contact Ernie Chambers.
- Race for Life
The Race for Life (1st June in Winchester) also needs marshals and has asked for help from club members, and have offered a promotional stand for the club at the event. To volunteer as a Marshal at the Race for Life, please contact Hannah White, Area Event Manager - Race for Life at Cancer Research UK.

Help WADAC to Secure £50,000 Funding from Norwich Union
WADAC has an opportunity to secure £50,000 funding from the Norwich Union via its Join Our Team initiative. To do this we need your votes to move our bid from its current position of 10th place in the South East, with a total of 169 votes.

Normally you only get one vote, but if someone who has already voted sends you an email request to vote and you use that then they get a bonus vote! To take advantage of this two for one scheme I will be sending nomination emails to club members throughout May asking them to vote.

This is how it works:

  1. I will send a vote request email to club members.
  2. If you receive an email message from "Norwich Union Sports Fund" with the subject title "Your friend has invited you to help a sporting initiative", and you have not already voted, please follow the instructions in the email message to register and vote for our initiative.
  3. By voting in response to my message you will entitle me to another vital bonus vote.
  4. Once you have registered, and if you have already voted, please use the Join Our Team web site to contact friends and family and ask them to vote.

Please do vote once you hear from me and use the Join Our Team website to invite as many relatives, friends, and colleagues to vote.  NU have clear terms and conditions and you can opt out from receiving any follow-on messages from them. If you have not received a request to vote from me by the end of May then please click here to send me a message and I will nominate you.

This is a heaven sent opportunity to do something for the club by getting funding for what we do.   My sincere thanks go to Jackie Ducker and Michaela McCallum, without whose help our original submission would not have been selected. Many thanks in anticipation of your good work and anticipated efforts on behalf of the Club. Ewan Simmons, Sportshall coach.
