Juniors FAQ

  1. Q: How old do you have to be to be a Junior?
A: school years 4 (8 years old) to year 13 (18 years old).
  2. Q: Where and when do we train?
A: Thursdays in term time at the University Athletics Track, Bar End - see map.  Specialist event coaching is available on Tuesdays by coach invitation only. This is for competing juniors in year 6 and above.  Sports Hall training also runs September- April on a Tuesday evening.  Please contact waitinglist@wadac.org.uk before attending any session to check that there is a space available.
  3. Q: Where do I park?                                                                                                                  A:Please park in the Barfield Park and Ride car park (Postcode SO23 9SQ), then cross Bar End Road at the mini roundabout and walk to across the field to the track. Please do not enter the track from Milland Road or drive onto the playing fields.
  4. Q: How much do I have to pay?
A:Nothing for the first three sesssions. After those taster sessions you will be expected to become a full WADAC member. See the Membership page for details of how to join and current membership fees.
  5. Q: What do I need to wear?
A: the most important thing is a pair of comfortable training shoes. You don't need to rush out and buy a pair of spikes! Clothes that are comfortable to run in, e.g. shorts and t-shirt. Warm clothing in winter - it's easier to take off layers and it's surprising how quickly you cool down after the session.
  6. Q: What else do I need to bring?
A: a drink, preferably water or a sports drink and a healthy snack for afterwards.
  7. Q: Does an adult need to stay during the training session?
A: Yes for initial taster sessions but once you become a WADAC Junior, your parents/guardian can drop you off but we must have a contact number and they must return to pick you up on time. Lots of parents/guardians like to stay and watch. Tea and coffee are available in the pavilion.
  8. Q: How can my parents/guardian become involved with the club?
A: The club relies solely on volunteers and a growing number of parents are becoming coaches through the club's subsidised coaching scheme. We also need Track and Field officials for events and again the club runs officials' training courses. We also need anyone who can volunteer to lend a hand from time to time without having to do a course, e.g. baking a cake for an event, helping to host an event etc.
  9. Q: What competition opportunities are there?
A: the club participates in a number of leagues. See Fixtures page for more information.
  10. Q: Where is the Juniors Track and Field selection policy described?
A: See Junior Track and Field Selection Policy.
