YOUNG ATHLETES LEAGUE SUMMER 2007

We competed in 4 matches [all with good weather bar one!] over the season. Ranging from u13 to u17 our young people competed well at the same time as enjoying first attempts, great individual results and making new friends. An average of 20 young athletes took part each time.

Athlete of the Match awards were awarded to Rebecca Knapton[u13] for her impressive 1200m races, Jack Mitchell[u15] for High jump, Sarah Burgin [u17] for 800m and Keiran Showler-Davis [u17] for 200m.

Alongside, and vital to the successful organisation of such matches, have been some willing helpers and parents who have backed up our officials. This spirit of helpfulness has gone a long way to making the events enjoyable. With the supportive help of other clubs from the south we hosted one of the matches. George McCallum showed his skill as a commentator which was appreciated by many.

Many thanks must be directed to our COACHES in the various disciplines who invest a lot of time to encourage and guide. Our few OFFICIALS are very stretched so more volunteers are needed. This could be a perfect solution for anyone who has reached a time in their life where learning a new skill AND getting to know a whole new bunch of people accross all the ages could be a very positive step!

Pending final results, as a club we finished in 3rd/4th Position out of 7 clubs.

Other Track and Field leagues which we enter as a club are the Wessex League[u11 in 2007],the Southern Womens league [includes u15 and u17 girls].Opportunity to compete in a "mixed" club team has been there at u20 level.....roll on the track!!!
