Wessex League Track & Field

URGENTLY REQUIRED -  WESSEX TEAM MANAGER Y6 - Y11

We urgently need a team manager (or more than one) for the Wessex Junior Track and Field Team. The Wessex League is our second competition and one we use to ensure as many of our athletes get a chance to compete as possible.  Selection for the  National Young Athletes League will be aimed at producing the strongest team which means that due to limited places many athletes will not be selected.  Their main chance to compete for WADAC will be at the Wessex where they are given  priortity if they dont get selected for the NATYAL.  This is especially the case for Years 6 and 8 who are at the bottom of the U13 and U15 age groups

IF WE DO NOT HAVE A MANAGER FOR THE WESSEX WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENTER A TEAM AND YOUR CHILD MAY NOT GET TO COMPETE.

This is a relatively easy role:

In advance (2 weeks before match)-Team "selection":  Based on filling in a team sheet.  You can prioritise your own children and coaches will help if there are too many applicants.  Send in team sheet by email to league contact.  It will help if you are at the track on Thursdays.

Manage on Day:  Collect Team numbers and give to athletes. Not a lot else required.
If you can't make one of the dates someone will hopefully stand in to cover.

Ongoing:  contact with league organiser by email.  Email is essential for this role.

It would be ideal if there could be a separate manager for boys and girls to help share the load. If you think you can help with this please contact juniors@wadac.org.uk or any of the coaching team.

AGAIN unless someone comes forward by 19th March we will NOT be entering this league and your child may not get to compete for WADAC this year.

Fixtures for 2010 are as follows:

Sunday 18 April

Oxford

Sunday 6 June

Winchester (Host)

Sunday 4 July

Andover

Sunday 25 July

Bournemouth

The matches are for all athletes in the following age categories, U13, U15, U17. Athletes may compete in 3 events and a relay. WADAC is using the Wessex League as an extra competition for athletes to gain valuable experience. The Young Athlete League matches (managed by Michaela and George Mccallum) remain the priority competition.

We would like to fill as many of the events as possible, so why not just have a go? We can also submit non-scoring athletes, so if we have more than 2 athletes wanting to take part in a particular event we can usually accommodate them. The Female declaration sheet and and Male declaration sheet show available events and times.

If you have any doubts just ask, or check with any of the Club coaches who will be more than happy to give you some advice. Remember you must be a member of WADAC to compete and you will need to wear your Club vest.

Quad Kids

Quad Kids is a competition run for U11's (school years 4 and 5) on the same day and at the same venue as the Wessex League. Each athlete must participate in all 4 events - long jump, mega howler throw, 60m and 600m run. It is a team as well as individual competition with 4 to count. There are prizes to be won in each event and over all 4 competitions. Karen Hazlitt is the Quad Kids team manager and you can contact her at quadkids@wadac.org.uk.
