Young Athlete League in Salisbury NOT Winchester 20th July
Due to the Winchester infield of track not being ready in time, the final Young Athlete League match on 20th July will now take place in Salisbury - further details to follow, if you are keen to compete then please let us know if you haven't already. WADAC are hosting this match and we will therefore need lots of helpers on the day to help officiate, make cups of tea for officials, record and generally create a good atmosphere. Please contact Michaela if you are keen to help! You do not have to have a young athlete at the match to come along - ALL welcome to come along and support our talented juniors as they head for promotion to Division 1 in this final match of the season.
WADAC JUNIOR THROWS COACHING - TUESDAYS KINGS SCHOOL
As many of you will now be aware the track at Winchester is almost ready however the infield has yet to be finished, which means that we are unable to do throws this season at Bar End. This also has implications for the Wessex and Young Athlete league fixtures. The YAL on 20th July will now take place at Salisbury, more details to follow in next week or so.

Every Tuesday until the end of term, Ewan Simmonds (throws coach) has kindly offered to coach discus, shot and possibly javelin at Kings School from 6:30-8:00pm for those wishing to improve their throwing skills. Please note this is for Year 6s and above only. Park in the main car park, to right of roundabout and Ewan will meet you at small gate overlooking cricket nets.

If you need futher information or are available to assist please contact Ewan directly on 01962 867902 or ewan@wadac.org.uk.

As soon as we have an update on date for using the track and jumps areas we will let you all know, we have been told it will be within the next few weeks.
JUNIOR TRAINING - THURSDAY 12th JUNE 6:30pm
Please note that the track is not currently available for use and so in the meantime we will be using the Garrison Sports Ground, which is next to the new track. Please use the BARFIELD PARK AND RIDE for parking. There will be no direct access to the playing fields for vehicles. This will be good practice for when the track is up and running as this will be the designated car park. It is free after 4pm so this will not be a problem. Please take care as you cross Bar End Road. The Park and Ride is at South end of Bar End Road, off Chesil Street. The field is a few hundred metres North on the other side of Bar End Road - map.

Abigal Nixon will be taking the registration. Please ensure you sign in and are ready to start training at 6:30 sharp.

There is now a waiting list for U11 (Years 4 and 5). We are still accepting Year 6 and above. The current Mini Group (ie Y2 and Y3) will continue for existing attendees in a separate coned off area. Please note MEMBERSHIP was due from begining of APRIL and should now be paid. See membership page for details. Due to the situation with waiting lists we are unable to have NON-MEMBERS at training.

We will continue on this venue until we have cleared access to the track which we expect in the coming weeks. Check out the Website for updates

PS when we are there you will get a chance to look over the fence at the new track. It looks great.

Juniors
Please note that there is no Young Athlete League match on the 22nd June. The next and final match is to be held in Winchester on 20th July.
NYAL Match - Portsmouth 18th May - Second Match Victory for WADAC!!
WADAC stormed to victory at Portsmouth in the second match of the National Young Athlete League. Some great individual performances coupled with sheer numbers of athletes turning out for the match and a willingness to try out new events meant we won by around 100 points. Congratulations to Hannah Ashmore who achieved the English Schools qualifying throw in all 3 of her throws! Full match results can be found here for full results and here for Grade 1 and 2 performances. As always grateful thanks to parents for helping out on the day, team captains Nikki Ferris and Luke Samuel and club Officials (Mike Buckett, Ernie Chambers and Tony Bateman). Next match Sunday 1st June at Salisbury. Contact Michaela McCallum ASAP if you wish to take part, slots are filling fast! The fourth and final match is in Winchester 20th July. Please keep the day free to come along and cheer on our WADAC juniors. Event timetables: boys, girls.
Young Athlete League - 4th May 2008
The Young Athletes of WADAC put on a fine display in the first match of this year’s Young Athlete League held in Salisbury, Sunday 4th May. A tremendous turnout and willingness to try new events ensured that almost all event slots were filled. There were some high calibre performances across the events and these were backed up by support from those willing to throw, jump or run a new event just for those valuable team points. We are currently awaiting results at www.natyal.co.uk/ but can safely assume we won the match by a clear margin of around 150 points.

Thanks to all parents who helped on the day, officiating, helping team manage and cheering loudly. There was great support from the lads of Winchester College, Luke Samuel especially for not only running the 800 and 1500 double but the 1500m steeplechase too. He was cheered on wildly by the team…no prizes for guessing why support was extra strong by the water jump. Many thanks too to David Phillips and Ernie Chambers for officiating.

The second match of the campaign for promotion will be 18th May in Portsmouth. Let Michaela or George McCallum know ASAP mccallums@wadac.org.uk if you are keen to take part, slots are filling fast. Event timetables: boys, girls. We welcome assistance on the day from parents and of course are seeking Club Officials for their invaluable support. Spectators more than welcome!

Planned third match 1 June.
Fourth and Final match – 20th July, Winchester (LOTS OF HELPERS NEEDED!!)

Young Athlete League - First Match 4th May Salisbury
All juniors U13, U15,U17 keen to take part in the above match please contact Michaela or your coach asap. If you are prepared to do more than one event, even to gain a point then that would be fantastic, our aim this season is to have fun and try to get out of the bottom division! More details on timings and venue to follow although indication is that timetable will be as last year. Date for second match is 18th May at Portsmouth. Officials and volunteers also required, if you are able help then please contact either Michaela or John Fuller.
Thursday Training
Junior training will resume this Thursday 24th April at Pilgrims field College Street end of College Walk, near (Wolvesey Palace) 630-730pm. This will be until half term, after which the new track should be ready and we can transfer to Bar End. Unfortunately due to a wet few weeks it has not been possible to lay the final surface on the track. Any parents who are interested in assisting at sessions (raking long jump pit, supervising throws, holding a stopwatch etc), please see Michaela - it does not have to be a regular commitment, the odd week here and there all helps. There will be no training fee payable at present but as in our new development plan all children will be allowed a 3 week trial. In order to continue they must become full club members.
Junior Development Policy
The Winchester and District AC Young Athlete Development Policy sets out our approach to young athlete development. This shows how we will approach young athlete development, what to expect from us and what we expect from you.

Second Hand Kids' Kit
As the cross country season is almost upon us, you will no doubt experience the reality that your children's feet have grown since April! With spikes retailing at over £20, and the children not wearing them out we thought that there is a market for second hand sales.
We are looking for one or more parent volunteer(s) to organise a weekly second hand spikes stall at the Thursday Juniors session, an excellent way to spend the hour outside the pavilion! Perhaps a group of friends could set up a rota? Also if the sellers wished, then a donation of the proceeds to WADAC would always be appreciated.
Many thanks, Karen Hazlitt
