HAMPSHIRE LEAGUE ROAD RACES REPORT

Well done our runners in the Hampshire league races, with nearly 30 in the Gosport race and nearly 40 in the Hayling event..Great to have such numbers, lets keep that going .It is because of this effort that the club is top of the leagues .The men just lead Southampton in the A Division ,whilst the B and C teams are second and fourth in the B league. The Women  are first in both the A and B leagues…GREAAT.!

Well done to to Jo. For winning Hayling ,and what a result ,first second and third ,with Shona and Karen close behind her. Great team effort and finishing positions for Katherine , Rachel and Sarah for the B team scorers. At Gosport Katherine  had a  good fourth. place  ,with Rachel ,Sue True ,Charlotte ,Harriet and Marie  scoring in the A and B teams .I’m sure this may be a first for some of you ,so well done …and to achieve  a second team placing for the A and a first for the B league ….excellent…There has been a suggestion that there should be C team for the Women next season.

For the Men at Gosport ,the challenge was a tough one. , but nice to see  Matt , George Mike and Gareth in the A team .The B team was almost made up by the Andy team (Malcolm can you change your name !) At Hayling ,George and Simon ran the whole race together ,but the Vet man got the better by one second!.The team was completed by Julian and Nick (just doing some pacing) for a great team win. Mike, ,Peter, Andy S. and Will also scored well for their B team win as well …excellent. Whilst Andy T., Richard, Andy R. and Tony , fought each other for the closing C team. Thanks to everyone else not mentioned, it is impressive the numbers we get out ,it is so difficult to get in a team !!! Part of the challenge !!

Mention must go to those runners that managed both races , a bit tough on yourselves!!

Anyway ,the Men -George, Robin ,Mike, Andy T., Andy S., Tony , Andy C., Steve, Paul, Bernard ,Sam .For the Women - Katherine, Rachel, Harriet, Esme, Jackie, Joy. Great team support. You may be wondering why I have not mentioned Robin Houghton ,who has recently joined the club but has to serve  a ban for changing clubs,. Can’t wait for him to score.

George and Rachel and now near the top of the Hampshire individual league table ,well done .

Andy Carton is doing a great job with the Grand Prix tables for WADAC.highlighting leaders in Chatterbox and updating tables on website after each race. See where you are !!

Best of luck everyone at Victory …Lets keep that lead in the League. and prepare for Stubbington and the 10 miler on the I.O.W. in January. ( I hope we can get full teams for Ryde 10.)

The HRRL Gosport HM result has now been revised. Robin Houghton is now shown as a non-scorer and the Winchester men's A team has changed from 2nd to 5th.

for that race. The results are now out for the Hayling 10 and not surprisingly Robin did not score.

After the Hayling 10 the men's teams are 1st in the A league Div 1

  and 2nd & 4th in the B league.

and the women's teams are 1st in the A league Div 1

and 1st in the B league.

HARDLEY HALF MARATHON

Winchester and District A.C. travelled down to Gangwarily at the weekend for the Hardley Half marathon . This event is the second race of the Hampshire Road Race League Series. The race was a tremendous success for the Winchester teams as both Mens and Womens teams won following an unexpected high turn-out of some of the clubs top runners.

In the Mens race ,the Winchester club had  Nick Anderson , their Endurance coach win the race .Making  a sensible steady start ,he worked through the leading runners until he reached the lead after about 10 miles , then was never headed as he struck the finish line in an excellent 70 minutes .30 seconds. Following him in other good positions was Matt King in 5th. place ,74.30 , then George Hide 6th. 75.10 , then Julian Mann 13th. in for this superb first  team finish .Other good B and C team places came from Mike Davies ,Andy Tremain, Peter Spellman, Steve Goodwin, Bill Reed, Derek Smith, Paul Roberts and Bernard Bennett.

The Women made their team result look even easier as Emma Patel cruised round , enjoying the beautiful sunny conditions to win in an excellent 79 minutes 33 minutes. Not far behind and also enjoying good runs were second Debbie Coslett in 80 mins.57 and club stalwart Michaela McCallum third, having a training run in 83 mins.43. .Following this superb result , their was also a succession of good performances  for the B team with. Sarah Reid ,Rachel Byers ,Harriet Bush  ,Mel Bonas ,Marie Evans and Esme Ireland.

The club now has both Mens and Womens teams at the top of the League table after just two races this season ,with two races  in November and one in early December ,the teams hope they can repeat last seasons double league win.
