  Hayling 10

It was a great day for Winchester and District A.C. members when both the mens  and womens teams won outright  the team events on the day at the Hayling 10 mile road race at the weekend. The race was also staged as the County championships. The double wins is a difficult thing to achieve when there are so many competitive clubs around tackling this very popular South Coast event, which provides such fast times.

Star of the Day was Michaela McCallum who won the Ladies  race by four minutes , and this race followed winning the Hampshire League cross-country only the day before. She is showing great strength and hopefully this augers well for her marathon early next year.

McCallums time for the 10 miles was 56mins. 56 secs., she was followed home by club stalwart Bev . Edwards in a good 5th place in 64.49 and then Karen Hazllitt in 23rd., who worked hard for a new personal best in 71.30.. The  Ladies B team of Jan Spring , Shirley Dyson-Laurie and Delia Brown also ran well scoring a high team placing.

The Men turned out in force with over 20 runners and showing their determination pipped Southampton to the winning place. The team of Jason Perry, having a great run for a personal best of 54.09 for 6th. place , shows his continued improvement. He was followed home by George Hide 14th .55.24, Jeremy Braines 26th. 57.43, and Keith Dowson 27th.57.45 all having personal bests. There was also good runs from the B team who all running within 60 mins ,who were Marius Kwint , Paul Sidaway, Jonathon Robinson  and Julian Mann. And then the C team of Keith Taylor, Tony Britten and new members Andrew Smart and Tony Sharp.

On the day  for the County championships McCallum won County Gold , Edwards Silver, and Perry and Brown Bronzes medals.

Team Manager Alan Coveney was very proud of the Mens and Womens teams on the day as they  sit at the top of the Hampshire Road Race League   as  do the B teams in their respective league as well..With such a good day for the club they are very well motivated towards the next race in January which is the Stubbington 10k

CC6 Matley Wood

WADAC had a great turnout for the first race in the CC6 cross country series which was held in the New Forest at Matley Wood. Eight men  and six ladies competed, over half for the first time on a glorious sunny morning over a very dry course. Both the men and ladies had excellent results with the men's team coming second and the ladies team first with the first three ladies coming 2nd, 3rd  & 4th.
The next race in the series is on 16th November at Stony Cross and is it our organising event along with Romsey Road Runners. This means that instead of running we have to help by providing marshals etc. PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO HELP. Contact John Radford 023 80610752 or john@radfords.screaming.net.
