WADAC win Match 3 of YDL LAG season

Winchester & District Athletic Club (WADAC) had a highly successful day at the third match of the Youth Development League (Lower) Track & Field, which was held at the Winchester Bar End track. Competition was provided by Walton AC, Woking AC, Chichester AC, Bournemouth & New Forest and Havant AC. WADAC had a strong team and this led to a deserved victory in the tam event which leaves them heading their Division with one match remaining.

In the first track event of the match Beth Thorpe again impressed with her hurdling technique to win the U13G 70 m Hurdles in a Grade 2 performance of 12.2. Beth later improved her PB n the Long Jump to 4.07m to achieve 2nd in the A string. Beth also sprinted to 4th in the 150m in 22.1. She was also in the 4x100 relay team with Emma Shedden, Alice Eyssens and Connie Brush who ran 59.9 for 4th place. Alice Eyssens ran very well for 2nd in the 75m A in 11.1 for G4 performance plus jumping 3.58m for 2nd in the U13G B event and jumping over 1.15m in the High Jump B for 2nd. Olivia Busher again provided priceless points in the throws with a win in the Javelin A with 26.58 G1 and also victory in the Shot B in 6.04m. Aisling Hitchman improved her PB in the 800m to 2.39.7 for 4th place and Lara Bassett ran well for 2nd in 2.48.8 in the B race. Jasmine Jones had a solid run in the 1200m for 3rd A in 4.28.6. Emma Shedden ran well to place 2nd in the 75m hurdles B race in 13.4 and high jumping 1.20m for 3rd A. Sisters Tuesday and Aeryn Bettridge again added useful points in the throws with Tuesday 3rd A 6.07m and Aeryn 2nd B Javelin 9.92m. Grace Tugwell ran well in the 75m B race for 4th in 11.6.

Sam Clifton is becoming a real force in the U15B throwing scene and threw excellently in this match with victory in the Hammer with a distance of 35.62m and also won the Discus B 22.68m and put the Shot 9.14m for 2nd A. He was backed up by Alex miles who threw the Discus 23.84m 3rd A and Shot B 8.33m 1st B as well as Javelin 3rd A 32.67m (G4). Lucas Pasche achieved 25.62m in the Javelin B for 2nd. In the U15G sprints Andrew Stanfield and Iwan Wrey Brown both had good days with a double victory in the 300m with Andrew 40.3 and Iwan 44.1. The duo was both 2nd in the 200m with Andrew 25.1 and Iwan 25.7. Doug Scally again front ran superbly to gain victory in the 1500m in 4.42.9 with team-mate Ren Foley 2nd B in 5.12.6. Ben Thomas impressed in the Long Jump A winning by almost a metre in 5.55m. Sam Roberts hurdled to 3rd A in the 80m hurdles and gained points in the 800m. Matthew Tugwell was 4th 800m B in 3.07.8.

Amy Dawes demonstrated her great improvement this season in the sprints by running the U15G 200m in 27.3 for victory and 100m in 13.2 (G3) for a close 2nd place. Meagan Heal had a good run in the 100m B race getting 2nd in 13.8. Lucy Spurrier coming back from injury ran 29.5 for 5th 200m B. Sophie Torrance improved her PB in the 300m A with 47.3 for 3rd with Lily Neate 4th B in 49.7. Lily improved her PB in the 800m A with 2.30.7 with Sophie 3rd B 2.41.6.  Aisling Dunne gave a battling display in the 1500m A finishing 2nd in 5.10.4 with Hannah Foster taking the B race in 5.31.6. In the U15G hurdles Ella Popowicz ran well for 3rd A in 13.6 and Emily Weeks backed her up with 2nd B in 14.5 . Emily also long jumped 4.13 for 2nd B with Holly Pilkington leaping to 4.38m for 3RD A. Alina Eichorst again threw well with 3rd A Javelin 26.46 (G4) and Discus 4th A 20.66m, Alina gained points in the High Jump with 1.35m where Olivia Jones achieved 1.30m  for 3rd B. In the Shot threw a fine 9.32m for 2nd A with Sophie Torrance 4th B with 6.43m. Serena also was 2nd B Discus 18.23m. The team of Pilkington, Heal, Charles and Popowicz were 3rd in the 4x100 relay a position achieved by the 4x300 team of Weeks, Neate, Torrance & Emma Shingleton-Smith.

In the U13B category Dan Kimber again excelled with a win in the 74m hurdles in 13.1 (G2), he also won the Shot with a distance of 7.84m. He was joined in the Shot by Ned Wolfe who threw 5.35m for 2nd B. Theo Harvey threw the Javelin 28.7 (G3) for a superb victory with Finlay Wrey Brown taking the B event with 23.33m, Theo also high jumped 1.30m. Billy Brackley Ned Wolfe and Ollie Withers gained good points in the sprints and Long Jump. Charlie Kyle ran well in the 800m A for 3rd in 2.35.3 with Arthur Chambers 5th B 2.46.8. Michael Shingleton-Smith and Harry Harvey ran well in the 1500m race. The 4x100 relay team of Burrows, Wrey-Brown, Wolfe and Brackley were 4th.
