About Juniors

Juniors are boys and girls from school year 4 to school year 11. Below is an overview of the activities and training groups that are available to junior members of WADAC.

See the Information for Parents page for a useful Junior Pathway document and some questions and answers.

School years 4 & 5 - The U11s Academy
The U11s Academy aims to introduce the children to running, jumping and throwing. The groups take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, usually 5.30 to 6.45pm. These groups train outdoors at the athletics track with some indoor time at the leisure centre when available.

School years 6 - 11 - Track & Field

Junior athletes can compete in most of the standard athletics events in a number of different leagues and competitions in both the winter and summer. There are various training groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, some offering training across several disciplines and others focused on single events or activities, e.g. sprints only or throws only or jumps only.

Inclusive Group
The inclusive Group, coached by Stewart Lang, runs on a Thursday from 5:30 – 6:30 at the track (term time only.) The group is open to young people from 11-18 and takes a multi-skills approach to athletics. We welcome all young people who might benefit from this group, which is completely inclusive whatever their needs or disability.

The Coaches
They are fully qualified coaches, having completed the necessary courses provided by England Athletics. The sessions are also supported by parent volunteers, who make a vital contribution in ensuring that we can take a large pool of athletes. Read more about our coaches.

Our Ethos
We want athletes to enjoy their training and to try their best at all times. We expect them to treat their coaches and each other with courtesy and respect. We seek to encourage good training habits and high standards of behaviour. We are a competitive club and expect members to compete in at least 5 meetings each year.
