HRRL Race 2: Solent Half Marathon

n
nSunday 9th October brought the second gathering in HRRL
nseason - the Solent Half Marathon. We had a solid turn out of 12 ladies and 15
ngents all enjoying the scenic route in the crisp autumn sunshine.
n
nThere were some truly fabulous individual WADAC performances,
nlots of prizes and plenty of well-earned PBs but somewhat frustratingly these
ndidn't translate into the team success that I was expecting.
n
nSam Aplin was the first WADAC lady, forth female finisher
noverall and first in the F25-29 category. Her amazing time of 1:25:48 was
nobviously a PB because being our duathlon champ it's one of the few races she's
ndone without insisting on adding a cycling leg! Sarah Shedden picked up the
nprize for the first 40-44 female with a PB of 1:31:40 and our ladies A-Team was
ncompleted by Lynne Whitaker posting a cracking time of 1:32:12 which convincingly
nwon her the F55-59 first prize, being a good ten minutes ahead of anyone else
nin that category. Surprisingly the New Forest Runners just pushed us out of the
ntop spot so our ladies had to make do with the second team prize.
n
nSusy Perry collected the second prize in the F35-39
ncategory, Sarah Gurney the first prize for F45-49 and together with Caroline
nCarr they made up our ladies B-team. Our C-team consisted of Jo Curtis,
nJoy Radford and Sally Easton with Jo also picking up the award for the second
nfemale finisher in the 55-59 group. Shirley Dyson-Laurie was also the second
nlady to finish in the 65-69 age category.
n
nIn the men's race James Moore continued his ascent,
nrunning a great PB of 1:21:44. Not far behind was Joe Chick, with Mark Curtis
nand Chris Setters making up our A-team and Mark winning first place in the 50-54
nage category along the way. Our gents B-team consisted of Bruce Ayling, George
nBelfield, Colin McManus and Richard Shingleton-Smith. Colin ran a significant
nPB and only two races into the season seems to already be vying with James
nMoore for the "most improved" award in our Grand Prix.
n
nSteve Goodwin finished very strongly and didn't seem at
nall drained by recent multiple marathon events. Saul Duck, Paul Oxley and Mark
nWilson joined him in our men's C-team with both Paul and Mark gaining Half
nMarathon PBs. The amazing Jonathan Kane also won the award for the first M70-74
nfinisher.
n
nUnfortunately some of the other clubs had some strong
nteam finishers so I think our gents were a little way down the team rankings.
n
nMany thanks to everyone that took part and congratulations
nto everyone that won a prize, got a PB or simply had a great run.Full results can be found here:http://www.stuweb.co.uk/race/1ie
n
nThe next race is the Gosport Half Marathon on 20th November
nso please get yourselves signed up for that. It's a relatively flat course that
ncan offer PB potential if the coastal breeze is kind.
