HRRL Race 6: Stubbington 10k Results
As the forecast was for heavy rain we should probably be thankful for what turned out to be little more than a light drizzle and some people even prefer to run in such "refreshing" conditions.
nStubbington is always a popular race with a busy start but for a relatively large event in a relatively small place it is well organised and always goes off smoothly, this year being no exception. There were a good number of black and gold WADAC vests scattered amongst the crowded first wave and in total we had a splendid turn-out of 24 gents and 21 ladies.
n
nOur women's contingent was given a super boost by the presence of some of our fast, young ladies - feel free to enter as many of the HRRL races as you like girls!
n India Lee was our first lady home in an amazing 36:19, closely followed by Kate Towerton, both picking up PB's (I think) and winning the prizes for the second and third females overall. Well done girls. Our immensely strong A-team won the award for the first female team and was completed by Kath Bailey who also picked up the vets prize for the first F45.
n Our ladies' B-team included further PB performances from Sam Aplin and Sarah Shedden, and was completed by Susy Perry. Sarah collected the prize for the third F40, Susy for the third F35 and together with Kath they won the award for the first female veterans team. Amazing stuff ladies.
n Solid performances from Natalie Cain, Glynis Sheppard and Sally Easton ensured a good standing for our ladies' C-team.
n Awards also went to Jo Curtis as the second F55 and Shirley Dyson-Laurie was (again) the first F65.
n
nThe ladies' A-team continue their run of perfect league scores, again coming first of the ten teams in A-Div-1 and therefore obviously remaining at the top of the table after six of the season's twelve races. The B-team results are an identical reflection of perfection at the top of B-Div-1 and our ladies' C-team remain second overall in the same division having finished Stubbington fourth out of those fifteen teams.
n
nOur first gent to finish (in 34:39) was the super-speedy Simon Stevens who won the first M45 prize. James Moore, Nick Wood and Joe Chick made up the rest of our A-team with both James and Joe running impressive PBs.
n Our B-team consisted of Ian Debnam, Matt Grote (PB), Peter Sansome and Alex Whiting (PB). The strong combination of Simon, Nick, Matt and Pete was enough to secure the prize for the first men's veterans team, which is an amazing result in a field busy with competition from other clubs. So great to have our gents winning a well deserved team prize.
n The C-team included Patrick Warburton, Chris Setters, Steve Oliver and Colin McManus with Colin running (yet another) PB.
n Worthy of note is that in the also-rans all three of Saul Duck, Richard Nichols and Lloyd Dickson finished with chip-times within the same two seconds!
n
nOur gents' A-team came sixth out of the ten league teams in A-Div-1, leaving them fifth overall at this halfway point through the season. Our B and C-teams finished fifth and eleventh respectively of the fifteen teams in B-Div-1 and so currently reside third and thirteenth overall.
n
nBig thanks to everybody that ran - it was great fun to have such a large turn-out and a special well done to all of those that ran PBs or won prizes (especially Kath Bailey who won three prizes in the same race!)
n
nThe next race is the Ryde 10 Mile on the Isle of Wight on Sunday 5th February. We need as many more WADAC people to sign up for that one as we possibly can (please) - we are still a little light. Remember the club will pay for your ferry ticket - all you need to do is book yourself into the race and come for a grand adventure by the sea-side.
