Hampshire XC League Reading

The final match of the Hampshire Cross Country League took place at Prospect Park Reading. This match was a rearranged fixture after the original date was postponed after Travellers had taken over the Parks main car park. The number of runners were slightly down on previous matches probably due to the change of dates but there were still some good competition.

nThe Under 17 Women WADAC team won the overall Team aggregate having dominated season, on this occasion they finished 2nd team to Reading but still were crowned U17 winners. Grace Mann has been improving her position every race and left the best to last with an excellent run in 3rd position with team-mates Poppy Clements 8th and Isla Allan 9th completing the team. Natasha Miles also completed for WADAC in 19th. In the Individual overall aggregate Poppy was 4th Grace 5th and Isla 6th to emphasise WADAC’S dominance. A mention must be made of Emily Coulson who throughout the season has made a great contribution to the Under 17 Women cause.
n
nThe WADAC under 13 Boys were bolstered by inclusion of some of the Under 11 Boys and accordingly managed 2nd team position on the day which helped them to a superb 2nd team place overall. James Medley had his best run of the season with a solid 8th position followed in by Harry Harvey 10th who was the best placed WADAC runner in the Individual aggregate in 12th. Michael Shingleton-Smith was the third scorer in 18th . Other WADAC participants were Thomas Briggs 33rd Charlie Cox 35th , Ben Schofield 47th, Arthur Chambers 48th and Sam Williams 55th.
n
nThe Senior/Vet women had less WADAC runners taking part than usual and this was demonstrated in their 6th team position of the day but previous match team positions meant that WADAC were still 2nd overall. Melanie Wilkins again ran very well in 5th and her consistency gave her 4th Individual aggregate overall. Sue True was next in for WADAC in 34th and the team was completed by Alison Fenwick 49th. The other WADAC finisher was Madeline Vosser in 75th. The trio of True, Fenwick and Vosser made up the Vets women team which were 4th team on the day but had enough previous team victories to be 1st team overall. Another great performance by WADAC’s Vets women.
n
nAlthough not running on the day India Lee was the Leagues Women’s Individual aggregate winner and in the Vets Individual section Sue True was 9th overall for the season.
n
nWADAC had a good turnout in the Under 13 girls race with Hannah Foster continuing her fine improvement with a 8th position followed in by training partner Grace McKee 14th and having a splendid run Under 11 athlete Jasmine Jones 22nd completing the team. Lara Bassett 23rd, Lily Neate 25th Ellie McErlean 27th , Clemmie Rydon 31st Jemima Berry 32nd, Aisling Hitchman 41st, Grace Tugwell 43rd and Evie West 46th were the other WADAC competitors. The team were 5th on the day.
n
nThere was again only two WADAC finishers in the Under 15 girls race meaning no completed team however both Tallulah Jeffes 16th and Isabella Beck 27th ran well. There were no WADAC Under 15 boys taking part and hopefully the club can address the dearth of U15 runners for next season.
n
nKieran Payne was WADAC’s only runner in the Under 17 men race finishing in 20th position.
n
nIn the final race of the day the Senior/Vets Mens race WADAC best placed runner was club stalwart Franklyn Young in 80th and along with Rob Carter 88th and Peat Allan 89th were the WADAC contingent. The team finished 6th in the overall Senior team aggregate and were 5th overall in the Vets team section with Young, Carter and Allan making up the Vets team.
