Wessex League Match Winchester

The first Wessex Track & Field League Match took place at Winchester at the Bar End track on a glorious sunny day. The match is for young athletes under 13-Under 20 plus a Quad Kids competition for Under 11 athletes. There were six teams taking part, Winchester & District, Swindon, New Forest Juniors, Poole Runners, Fleet & Crookham and Andover/Overton. Winchester took full advantage of being hosts and ended up overall winners on the day.

nIn the Under 15 girls section two WADAC athletes dominated the sprints with Lauren Fall A string and Amy Dawes B string winning both the 100m and 200m events between them. Lauren ran 13.5 & 27.5 with Amy producing 13.6 & 28.1. It is no surprise that WADAC won the U15G category with many strong results. Sophie Torrance showed her versatility with wins in both the B 800m 2.47.3 and 300m 48.7 PB as well as 2nd in the B Shot. Another athlete to have a good competition was Serena Charles who was 1st in the Shot A with 9.13m which was a Grade 3 (G3) standard performance, Serena was also 2nd in the 75m hurdles A with 14.10. There was an impressive G2 performance in the High Jump by Emily Smith with 1.54m to win the event with Olivia Jones making it a double with 1.35n in the B event. Freya Brannigan ran a PB of 2.32.4 for 2nd in the 800m A race. Lily Neate did well to achieve 2nd places in the 1500m A 5.41 and 300m A 49.5. Alina Eichhorst returning from a winter of football training managed fine throws 19.24m Discus 1st and Javelin 25.49m 2nd. In the Long Jump Emily Weeks leapt to a PB of 4.33m 2nd A with Holly Pilkington winning the B event with 4.29m. The quartet of Dawes, Brannigan, Pilkington and Charles had a smooth victory in the 4x100 relay 55.6.

nThe WADAC under 17 women were equally as dominant with victory in their section. In the sprints the gold and black vests were constantly first over the line with Jasmine Meacock 100m A 13.6 & 200m B 28,5, Abigail Woollett 100m B 14.2, Grace Reid 200m A 27.4 all victorious. Reid also ran well to win the 300m B 43.8. Maddie Turner had two classy wins in the 80m hurdles A 12.8 G4 and 300m A 42.00 G3. Tallulah Jeffes 5.13 and Emily Coulson 5.14 battled together in the 1500m for wins in both strings, with Coulson also throwing the Javelin 16.35m to win Javelin A. Lucy Torrance had a good day in the field with victory Javelin 14.04m and 2nd Long Jump B 4.03m plus 3rd in the Shot. Ellie Livingstone hurdled her way to 1st in the 80m hurdles race. Gabrielle Spelman ran a fine PB of 2.33.7 for 2ND 800m A with Megan Lines running 2.46 for 1st in the B string. The 4x100m relay team of Woollett, Livingstone, Reid and Turner cruised to victory.

nSecond place was achieved by the Under 13 Boys with the highlight being the double win in the 1500m by Harry Harvey A 5.13.6 and Charlie Cox 5.23.9. Also in the middle distance Arthur Chambers ran well to win the 800m B race in 2.45.8. Sam Mballa had a busy time with a win in the Javelin B 21.81m and 3rd places 75m hurdles A 16.6 and Discus A 13.60m. Other noteworthy performances were Finlay Wrey-Brown 2nd Javelin A 23.26m G4: Ruben Burrows 3rd 100m A 14.6 & 3rd High Jump 1.30m: Alexander Beck 2nd 200m B 31.6: Sam Bradshaw 3rd Shot A 5.90m: Callum Emmans 2nd Shot B 4.98m: Sello Mtshweni 2nd Discus B 8.98m.

nG4 standards were set by Rose Chesterfield 2nd 1200m A 4.12.9 and Emma Shedden 2nd 70m hurdles A 13.2 in the Under 13 girls. Shedden also ran well in the 200m B for 3rd 31.4 and jumped 3.77m in the Long Jump. Olivia Busher is developing into a very good thrower and she demonstrated this with wins in the Javelin 25.80m which was a superb G1 standard performance and the Discus 17.15m G4. Despite her pre race nerves Jasmine Jones acquitted her very well to win the 1200m B race in 4.28.8 and also threw the Javelin 9.29m for 3rd B. Alice Eyssens showed good technique to win the 70 m B hurdles in 13.6 and then ran 15.2 for 2nd in the 100m B race. Lucia Wall ran well in the sprints including 3rd 100m a 15.3. Aisling Hitchman had good run in the 800m B for 3rd in 2.49.7 PB .

nBoth the Under 15 Boys and Under 17 men were 3rd in their categories. The outstanding performer in the U15B was undoubtedly Alex Miles who managed 2nd places in the Javelin A 35.89 G4, Discus A 20.38m and 80m hurdles 15.1. In the 1500m determined runs by Doug Scally 2nd A 4.45.1 G4 and Ren Foley 2nd B 5.13.1 gained valuable points. Other wins were obtained by Christian Cumming B 80m hurdles 15.9 and Toby Jeffes B Javelin 26.91m. In the U17M Sam Brockway impressed with sprint victories 100m B 13.1 and 200m B 26.4 supporting Jackkapon Khongkhao who won the 100m A race in 12.5. Other good runs were Sam Griffin 1st A 800m 2.13.5 and Joe Hoff 1500m B 4.42.7.

nIn the Quad kids competition WADAC were excellent winners with Amy Porter 2nd Lauren Richards 7th Grace Weeks 8th Alice Clegg 14th Emily Hoad 18th the best placed girls out of 45 competitors and James Lewis 2nd Musa Sanyang 5th Sammy Fallance 8th and Lucas Weston 21st the leading boys out of 48 athletes taking part. The 75m sprint had Philip Cain 11.7 and Alice Clegg 12.1 : Long Jump Musa Sanyang 3.32m and Amy Porter 3.46m : Vortex James Lewis 35.00m and Amy Porter 22.68m : 600m James Lewis 1.52.7 (best time of the day) Amy Porter 2.04.8
