YDL LAG Bournemouth

The second Youth Development League (YDL) Track & Field match was hosted by Bournemouth & New Forest Juniors at the Kings Park track a few hundred yards away from the Vitality Stadium.
nWinchester & District AC (WADAC) athletes travelled for Match 2 after having had a very good start in Match 1 where they finished 2nd out of the 6 teams.

nThe talented duo of Beth Thorpe and Emma Shedden had a double win in the U13G 70m Hurdles races. Beth looked smooth in winning the A race in a AAA Grade 2 performance of 12.2. Emma ran 12.7 (G4) to take the B race.

nSam Clifton, son of the Coach & Masters athlete Jeremy, dominated the U15G Hammer and threw a distance of 36.25 (G2) to easily win the event. Sam also launched the Discus 20.29m to take the B string and then Put the Shot 9.01m for 2nd place in the A event. Lily Neate ran a personal best to take the U15G 800m B race in 2.41.6.

nDoug Scally front ran to an impressive win in the U15B 800m race in a fast time of 2.16.1, he was ably supported by Sam Roberts who in 2.28.7 took 2nd in the B race.

nIn the U15G Javelin Alina Eichhorst again produced a consistent series of throws to win the A event with 27.18m. Alina also pitched the Discus out 20.25m to achieve 3rd in the A event. Ella Popowicz threw 17.29m for 3rd B in the Javelin.

nAisling Hitchman and Lara Bassett both improved their PB’s in the U13G 800m to 2.45 with Aisling 3rd A and Lara 1st B.

nThere were two excellent runs in the windy conditions by Aisling Dunne 5.13 and Isabella Beck 5.31 in the U15G 1500m both battling to 2nd places in both strings. The U13B 1500m was exciting with Harry Harvey 3rd A 5.16 and Michael Shingleton-Smith 5.16.3 1st B in an exciting sprint finish.

nWADAC hurdlers showed their improvement with Euan Holm 16.9 3rd A and Sam Mballa 16.5 1st in the U13B 75m Hurdles race. In the U15G 75M Hurdles Ella Popowicz 13.4 2nd A and Serena Charles 14.3 2nd B gained valuable points. The U15B 80m Hurdlers also did well with Alex Miles 3rd A 14.8 and Zach Sherry 2nd B 16.6.

nThe pair of Andrew Stanfield and Thomas Stockdale covered the U15B sprints between them with runs in the 100, 200 and 300m races with Andrew 3rd A 200m 25.7 and 3RD A 300m 41.7.Alex Miles took to the field and performed well throwing the U15B Javelin 30.28m 3rd A and also the Discus 22.49 3rd A. The quartet of Stanfield, Scally, Stockdale and Sherry were 3rd in the U15B 4x100 relay in 53.8.

nSprinting to fast times of 27.6 and 29.6 Amy Dawes and Megan Heal secured 3rd A & 2nd B in the U15G 200m. Sophie Torrance ran well for 3rd A 300m in 48.5. Emily Smith jumped well in the High Jump achieving 1.45m for 3rd A. Serena Charles as well as hurdling gained 2nd in the U15G Shot with a distance of 9.63m. Emily Weeks gave good support in the 300m, Long Jump and relay. WADAC were 3rd in both the U15G 4x100 and 4x300 relays.

nRuben Burrows showed versatility in the U13B category with good performances in the High Jump 2nd A 1.33m and Long Jump 4th A 3.99m as well as sprinting to 4th A in the 100m in 14.4. Arthur Chambers also demonstrated his event diversity with 2nd in the U13B Long Jump B 3.68m and 4TH B in the 800m in 2.47. Ned Wolfe similarly High Jumped 1.25m 3rd B and achieved 30.0 in the 200m A for 4th. Throwing distances of 23.89Javelin 2nd A and 12.42m Javelin 2nd B Finlay Wrey-Brown and Max Carlisle gained useful points.

nIn the U13G 75m sprint Alice Eyssens improved her personal best finishing 3rd A in 11.0 (G4) ,she was backed up by Grace Tugwell in 3rd B in 11.2 (G4). Alice had earlier thrown the Shot 6.16m for 2nda WHILST Grace also ran well in the 1200m in 4.41.4. In the Long Jump Jess Marinus leapt to 3.33m for 3rd A. Although disappointed with the distance of 23.38m Olivia Busher gained good points in the U13G Javelin 2nd A and throwing the Javelin for the first time Aeryn Bettridge did very well with 9.19m for 2nd B. Emma Shedden 1.23m and Tuesday Bettridge were both 2nd in their High Jump strings. The U13G 4x100m relay team of Emma Shedden, Beth Thorpe, Alice Eyssens and Connie Brush ran solidly for 3rd place in 60.6.

nThe next match in this League will be a home match for WADAC on 18TH June.
