HRRL Race 11: Netley 10k Results
As is the norm towards the end of the season we had a slightly lower WADAC turn-out of 11 gents and 7 ladies. So even though we had incomplete C-teams there was still some really good individual and team results, a good number of prizes and some strong league standings ahead of the final race at Lordshill.
n
nKath Bailey stays on top form and was our first lady finisher in an impressive 37m55s, coming in as the second lady overall and the first in the F45 category. Natalie Cain had a very good race, finishing as the first lady in the F35 category and the final member of our A-team was Sarah Shedden who was the second F40 finisher. These three ladies also won the prize for the first team overall, beating Southampton AC at their own event.Sarah Gurney was just a few seconds behind and as well as being the first member of our B-team also came third in the F45 category. Melissa Callister was next and the third placed F50 and Carrie Oliver completed the team.Sally Easton was our only other lady running so unfortunately we were not able to record a C-team result.
n
nOur ladies' A-team was already unbeatable at the top of the league division so another first place for them was just some icing on the cake. The B-team finished second to Hedge End B from the teams in their division but again it was already impossible for them to be toppled from first place in the table.Even though we had no C-team result for this race they still remain in second place in the league (as for the ladies the eight best scores from twelve are counted). There is a chance that Lordshill B could push us into third place after the final race on their home turf but looking at the WADAC ladies who have entered that event I am hopeful that we'll retain our current standing.
n
nSimon Stevens was our first gent to finish in 36m20s and was 1st in the M45 category. James Moore, Joe Chick and Lloyd Dickson made up the rest of our A-team with Lloyd picking up a PB by breaking 40 minutes for the first time.
n Our B-team consisted of Miguel Flores, Matt Kurton, Saul Duck and Stephen Lowy, and an incomplete C-team featured Steve Oliver, Mark Wilson and Dave Walker.
n
nThe race organisers actually published separate Men's Veteran Team Results with three runners per team and it is interesting to note that WADAC came third in this with a team of Simon Stevens, Miguel Flores and Saul Duck.
n
nIn terms of the league our gents' A-team finished sixth of the ten teams in Division-1 which means we have just nudged up into third place in the table. However with Portsmouth Joggers on exactly the same points as us and Denmead and Stubbington only a couple of points behind there is literally everything to play for in the final race to secure a prize-winning, end-of-season slot. Our gents' B and C-teams finished fifth and thirteenth respectively out of the fifteen teams in B-Div-1 meaning they remain in the second and eleventh slots in the table. I am hopeful that the Lordshill 10k will see the B-team hold onto their runners-up position for the end of the season (fingers crossed) and am happy to note that the C-team are at least well clear of the relegation zone.
n
nThanks as always to everybody that ran and to Alan for strategically manoeuvring himself to be able to shout encouragement about six times on the looping route!
