HRRL Race 10: Alton 10 Mile Results
A good few ups and downs arguably puts the Alton 10 Mile route between Ryde and Salisbury in terms of difficulty. Though unlike other courses I personally found some of the descents a little too steep to provide the comfortable, down-hill relief that I felt I'd earned after the climbs.
nThere was a healthy WADAC turn-out of 16 gents and 13 ladies on what was a fresh and cloudy morning. Conditions were pretty perfect which was most welcome after some of the recent warmer races and after the balmy weather endured at last year's Alton 10.
n
nKath Bailey continued her recent show of excellent form, finishing as third lady overall and first in the F45 category - a duplication of her prize-winning performance at Salisbury in April. Sarah's Gurney and Shedden were next to finish, completing our ladies' A-team in very respectable times considering their success at the London Marathon just two weeks previously and with Sarah Gurney attaining third place in the F45 category.Lynne Whitaker collected the prize for first F55 and made up our B-team together with Susy Perry and Emma Carter.Joy Radford was the third F55 finisher and with Jo Curtis and Louise Snook composed our ladies' C-team.
n
nOur ladies' A-team finished just behind Southampton AC but in terms of the league they were the first of the ten teams in their division and at this late point in the season are actually unbeatable at the top of the table. The ladies' B and C-teams finished first and fourth respectively of the fifteen teams in their division, so the B-team are also unbeatable in first place in B-Div-1. However for second place there's all to play for in the final two of this season's races in a close contest between WADAC ladies' C-team and Lordshill ladies' B-team.
n
nToby Lambert was our first male finisher by a long way in an impressive 54m21s, picking up the prize for third place overall. Joe Chick, George Belfield and Lloyd Dickson made up the rest of gents' A-team with Lloyd obviously notching up another in a run of PBs as his form continues to improve.James Moore headed up our B-team finishers with Mike Chambers and Miguel Flores coming in next (both in what I believe was their first 10 mile event) and Bruce Ayling taking the final spot in that team.Steven Lowy ran a PB to finish as the first member of our gents' C-team with the other three places filled by Saul Duck, Adrian Haughton, and Steve Cluett.
n
nThe WADAC men's A-team finished fourth of the ten teams in A-Div-1 and remain fourth in the table overall. It's going to be very interesting to see if we can clinch third place at the end of the season as Portsmouth Joggers are currently just one point ahead of us and Stubbington Green Runners just one point behind us.Our gents' B and C-teams finished fourth and eighth respectively out of the fifteen teams in B-Div-1 meaning they remain in the second and eleventh slots in the table.
n
nThanks as always to everybody that ran with particular congratulations to our prize-winners and anyone that managed a PB.
n
nThe final two races this season are the Netley 10k on 21st May and Lordshill 10k on 25th June where we can hopefully continue to strive for the best possible end of season standings for our gents teams and our ladies' C-team.
