Harestock Handicap Sept 2017

We had 22 runners out to contest the September Handicap, including no fewer than 6 event newbies - welcome to Louise Cutler, Debbie Kyle, Derek Cole, Leon Jones, Andrew Bryson and Nick Claydon - plus JJ Heath-Caldwell and Jonathan Kane were making their first appearances of the year. At the other extreme Sarah Aldridge, James Moore and Steve Oliver maintained their streaks and are on 9 out of 9 for the year. Steve Goodwin was our winner home well clear of Colin McManus and Karen Hazlitt. 10 runners managed to meet or beat their handicaps and 12 runners finished in the sweetspot that is the blanket finish.Fastest on the night was James Moore in 5'59 with Matt Grote next of the speedies in 6'16 and in total we had 8 runners sub-7 minutes. This included two of the newbies Leon Jones with 6'53 enters the honours board at No.53 and Andrew Bryson's fine 6'56 puts him onto the board at No.58.The overall standings are getting interesting as Robert Bryan now sits ahead of Lloyd Dickson but only on countback with Ianthe Edgeley just behind those two. With 3 races and one more discard to come much can change and things are shaping up for an exciting finish. Anyone can take part in the Harestock Handicap just come along on the first Thursday of the month (the next running will be 5th October) and in handicap racing everyone has a chance of getting into the mix and influencing the outcome of the series.
