Adrian Haughton wins Harestock Handicap Jan 2018
Maybe it's the season for New Year's resolutions and all that but we had 28 runners out to contest the Jan 2018 handicap race. Conditions were near perfect and there was close racing throughout the field with 11 runners "meeting or beating" their handicaps and 18 in the sweet spot that is the blanket finish. We had 4 very welcome event newbies in Naomi Wise, Paul Mayton, Simon Gillett and Guy Brayne but it was an old hand who prevailed.
nAdrian Haughton ran a well paced race to negotiate the large packs out on the course and pass Natalie Muska in the home straight to claim victory. Both successfully holding off the fast finishing Matt Grote and Carrie Baker. Adrian also won the last race - in December 2017 - and is fast becoming a bit of a specialist at this winning lark.
nFastest on the night was James Moore with a new PB of 5'50 which nudges him up to No.3 on the honours board. Matt Grote was next fastest, also with a new PB of 6'08 which gets him into the top 10 on the board. Two of the newbies were also speedy fellows with Guy Brayne recording 6'15 to enter the board at No.17 and Simon Gillett putting his mark at 6'40 and No.39 on the board.
