HRRL Race 7: Ryde 10 Mile Results and Write-up
12 WADAC gents and 7 WADAC ladies had an early start on Sunday 4th February in order to catch the ferry over to Ryde on the Isle of Wight. The sun shone but a bitter wind made the walk from the pier to the race HQ and the subsequent wait for the start of the race a little uncomfortable. A slightly tweaked course turned an already hilly route into what seemed like an even hillier one, meaning that the Ryde 10 (un)comfortably retains its status as the toughest of the HRRL races.
nSarah Gurney was our first lady finisher, breaking the 70 minute barrier and coming second overall in the F45 vets category. She was joined in the A-team by Sarah Shedden who was second F40 and by Emma Carter and together these ladies finished as a second placed female team.Lynne Whitaker was the first in our B-team and came in as the second lady overall in the F55 category. Young Lynn McKeague had a great PB run and Shirley Dyson-Laurie completed the team with another prize winning performance as the first placed F65.Unfortunately Sarah Aldridge had nobody else to join her to make up a ladies' C-team.

nSimon Stevens put in a great sub-60 minute performance to finish tenth overall and second in the M45 vets category. James Moore was only three places behind and Richard Bidgood followed as the second M40. Matt Grote continued his admirable 100% turnout at this season's races to complete our super-strong gents' A-team and together these chaps finished in first place as both a three-man and four-man team for the race and the league results respectively!Andy Brown, Colin McManus, Saul Duck and Stephen Lowy made up our B-team.Steve Oliver used the event as part of his marathon training so effectively demoted himself to the C-team by running significant additional mileage both before and after the race. He was joined by all the rest of our runners - Mark Wilson, Dave Walker and Jonathan Kane - to complete the team and Jonathan finished as the first placed M75 vet.

nIn terms of the league our ladies A-team came second so (just) hold on to the top spot in their division ahead of Southampton AC. Our B-team also came second out of the teams in their division so retain their second place standing in that league table.As already mentioned, our gents A-team put in a cracking show to finish first in their division and thus remain third overall in that table. Our B-team and C-teams came second and seventh respectively out of the teams in the B-Division so currently reside in second and eleventh places in the table.
n So with just five races remaining in the season it's already starting to looking like an exciting competition.

nNext races are the Eastleigh 10k and Salisbury10 Mile, both already sold out. However if you haven't already done so you must enter Alton 10 Mile and Netley 10k immediately to build on the work already done and ensure all the WADAC teams have a strong finish to the season.
