Harestock Handicap Results - April 2018

Back to normal with the April handicap being held on the first Thursday of the month and we had 22 runners out including one event newbie in Jane Gandee and Caroline Carr making her first appearance of 2018.
nOur winner on the night was Robert Bryan, back to form after his lurgy affected run of last month. With gender equality being very topical it is slightly unnerving that Carrie Oliver, Mikaela Price, Caroline Carr, Karen Hazlitt and Lynne McKeague ganged up on us and completed a shut-out of the other top places. Girl power!
nThe April event is always interesting as it is the first "daylight" event of the year and that gives runners a little bit more confidence to judge their leap on and off the pavement and around driveways. Whatever it is it certainly leads to fast times and of the 22 runners we had no fewer than 19 meeting or beating their handicaps and 14 finishing together in the sweetspot of the blanket finish. Exciting racing!
nFastest on the night was again James Moore with 5'58 from Matt Grote whose fine run of 6'12 bodes well for the Boston marathon next week - good luck Matt! In total there were 7 runners inside the 7-minute mark with notable PB times for Susy Perry (6'48 up to 53rd on the board) and Derek Cole (6'58 and new on the board at No.71).

nAs to the overall standings it is of course still very early with many races to come and many discards to be factored in but despite using a discard tonight Matt Lavers still leads the way but now from Carrie Oliver and Carrie Baker/Dickson. That picture will change but what we can say for sure is that there are now only 4 athletes still in with a chance of winning a coveted "12 out of 12" medal.
nThe next running of the handicap will be on the first Thursday of May - the 3rd of May - meet at the track 18.45 for 19.00, all welcome. Don't worry about being new to this come along anyway, we can set handicaps on the night.
