Amazing season for the throws group
The throws group went from strength to strength over the 2018-19 season with more throwers than ever before participating regularly at training and representing the club at league and open events.
n
nOver the season more than 20 athletes achieved AAA standard awards in over 30 events – a fantastic performance. In addition to this lots of personal bests were achieved and all of the group improved their throwing technique in a fun atmosphere!
n
nIn addition to the above 5 athletes were awarded honours from the club;
n
nMost Improved Junior (female) – Erin McBriar
n
nImproved her discus PB by over 10m in a year. Erin won the Hampshire Championships, finished 9th in the UK rankings, broke the WADAC club record and represented Hampshire at Inter County level.
n
nMost improved Junior (male) – Charlie Elford-Pond
n
nCharlie has improved beyond measure this season. Hadn’t any real experience throwing discus at the beginning of the season and now throwing over 30m. Phenomenal progress and a real talent for the future.
n
nU15 Track and Field (female) – Olivia Busher
n
nWon medals at County and regional level in Javelin – finalist at English Schools and broke the WADAC club record. Great talent and promising future ahead. Finished 6th in UK Rankings for 2019 season.
n
nU17/U20 Track and Field (male) – Sam Clifton
n
nFantastic season throwing over 56m in Hammer and breaking the club record. Sam was a finalist at English schools in an incredibly close contest. Finished 7th in UK rankings for 2019.
n
nInspirational Young female – Tamsin Hoult
n
nTamsin was recognised for her outstanding commitment to WADAC - not only does she compete for the Club but she gives up a lot of her time to officiate, having trained as a starter and field official. In one SAL match in 2018 she ended up competing in 4 events when she was only supposed to be officiating, and she often end up doing both at matches. She is chief starter for Sportshall, has a great attitude and is an exceptional role model for the younger children. She certainly goes above and beyond for someone so young.

n
nThe WADAC throws group is always looking to grow and develop and would welcome more members to come and have a go at throwing. In particular we’d welcome any more help and support from parents and coaches who would like to learn more about throwing and could help us provide more opportunities for athletes to participate. If you are interested please contact Martin McBriar – Head coach of throws on throws@wadac.org.uk
