As this extended track & field season comes towards a close, it was great to see some of the throwers competing in their new age groups at the weekend. At an open event in Portsmouth on Sunday, Charlie Elford Pond (coach Jeremy Clifton) threw with the U17 mens specifications for the first time and in doing so went to 2nd on the clubs all-time hammer list with a throw of 38.60m with the 5kg implement. Charlie also threw the 1.5kg discus for the first time with a throw of 29.57m. Tamsin Hoult (coach Jeremy Clifton) was in fine form adding over 2m to her senior womens hammer club record with a throw of 28.95m which also stands as an U20 womens club record. Tamsin threw 16.47m with the discus. U20 man Sam Clifton (coach Jeremy Clifton) didn't have his best day with the 6kg hammer throwing 44.95m. U15G Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) threw over 30m with the Hammer and close to 25m with the discus. Sister Abi still in the U13G age group threw over 20m in the javelin and close to the same distance with the discus. Jess Marinus (coach Heather Sheffield) now up to the U17W age group, threw close to 25m in the javelin. U15B Harry Jones (coach Heather Sheffield) threw over 25m with the javelin and Sam Nicholson (coach Andy Fisher) had his first competition as an U15B throwing over 25m with the 600g javelin and over 15m with the 1.25kg discus. Likewise Freddie Kaine (coach Martin McBriar) had his first throw as an U17M by hurling the 1.5kg discus over 25m and putting the 5kg shot over 8m.Two of the clubs multi-eventers were in action in the shot putt with U15G Carys Jeffries (coach Andy Fisher) going just short of 8m for a pb and Millie Cutts (coach Andy Fisher) making her debut for the club in her new U17W age group with a pb putt of 8.50m.Three of the clubs athletes were in action the weekend before at an open meeting in Lewes. Ben Healey (coached out of club) completed a busy end of season by winning race 8 of the 800m in just over 2 mins. Club Stalwart Moira West (self coached) went 3rd in the V70 womens UK rankings with a time of 16.83 in the 100m and Kathryn Miles (coach George Ogilvie) ran 14.30 into a very strong headwind.
