Sarah Gurney smashes through 3-hour marathon barrier!

Recent weeks has seen WADAC’s senior endurance road runners back in action. With the absence of the Hampshire road race league fixtures until 2021, athletes have been searching out events slightly further afield, including Kew Gardens, Eton Dorney and Goodwood.
nHaving come agonisingly close to recording a sub 3-hour marathon (3:00:11) at Chester in 2018, Sarah Gurney set out for Goodwood marathon in great form, hoping for a time starting with a 2. And so it came to pass, as Sarah conquered the tricky windy conditions to finish in a stellar time of 2:53:09. This took a huge 6-minute slice off the existing WADAC V45 marathon record and at the time of writing puts Sarah at 5th place on UK womens marathon performances for 2020.
nThere was a further club record at Goodwood, as Tamsin Anderson broke 80 minutes for the first time for the half marathon, finishing in a fine 1:19:32 for a WADAC V40 record. Congratulations also to Simon Williamson, who recorded a marathon PB at Goodwood, in 3:13:15.
nGood luck to all WADAC runners, taking part in marathons this weekend, with several runners taking on the Clarendon marathon, Dorney Lake marathon or enjoying a virtual London Marathon.
