Poppy and Rosa in record breaking form

The club's athletes continue to put in some amazing early season markers and this was further proved at an open meeting in Portsmouth on Sunday where despite cold and blustery conditions some eye catching performances took place.
nU13G Poppy Taylor (coach Nick Anderson) stole the show with a blistering run of 2 mins 25.6 secs in the 800m which puts her 7th in the UK and 2nd on the club's all time rankings list and is the quickest any U13 girl in the club has run for 20 years. U17M Harry Wilson (coach Nick Anderson) also put in a fine run to win his 800m race in 2 mins 2.71 secs less than a second off the club's all time top 3 lists. In other 800m action Zak Reynolds (coach Andy Fisher) ran a pb of 2 mins 27.84 and Ieuan Thomas (coach Nick Anderson) ran a shade over 2 mins 32 sec.
nOver to the discus and Rosa-May Sprake (coached out of club) threw 30.32m to break the club's U15G's discus record and also go 2nd on the U17W's all time lists. This puts her 2nd on the UK ranking lists just ahead of Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) who sits 3rd in the UK rankings and threw 27.70m on the day in Portsmouth. U17W Amelia Gordon (coach Martin McBriar) threw a season's best 26.39m. U13 girls Abigail McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) threw a pb of 22.94m with the 1kg discus with her normal weight being .75kg at her age group. For the boys U13B Daniel Parr (coach Martin McBriar) threw a pb of 16.44m.
nSticking with the throws U15G Arabella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) putted the shot out to 10.96m to break Emma Froome's age group club record giving the Guildford school girl her 3rd club record of the season previously breaking the club's best marks in LJ & 300m. Rosa May-Sprake achieved a distance of 9.40m and Amelia Gordon a season's best of 9.79m. Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) got a pb of 6.69m with the 2.72kg shot and brother Tommy (U13 academy) achieved a distance of 4.69m with the 3kg.
nMoving to the hammer Charlie Elford-Pond (coach Martin McBriar) added a further 4m to his pb to throw 44.27m increasing his distance as 2nd best of all time in the U17M's age group and veteran Sue Hume (self coached) made a rare appearance with a throw of 20.03m. Jasmine Gordon (coach Martin McBriar) and Erin McBriar were just below their season's bests. In the javelin U15B Harry Jones (coach Martin McBriar) threw a pb of 32.90m and Abigail McBriar and U17W Liv Busher (coached out of club) were just below their season's best.
nTurning attention back to the track, the wind meant that most sprint performances were above the legal limit but Francesca Bertscchini (U11 academy) ran a pb in the 600m and the 75m. Zak Reynolds ran a rapid 100m & 200m the latter being with a legal wind. Tommy Bertacchini's 100m was just outside his pb but Rosa-May Spake ran inside hers at the same distance. Lucia Bertacchini ran scorching fast 100m & 200m races but both were with a big following wind. Grace Colmer (coach Andy Fisher) and Arabella Wilson also ran fast pbs in the 200m but again the wind was above the legal limit.
nFinally in the HJ Grace Colmer became the 3rd Winchester women over 1.55m this season and Arabella Wilson equalled her pb of 1.45m.
nA really great day for the club's athletes as the season gathers pace towards league and championship action.
