Grace equals furthest ever jump
The club's athletes were in action in Eton, Southampton & Winchester at the weekend with some great performances on display despite the truly awful weather.
nThree of the club's senior endurance athletes ran the 5000m in Eton at the WSEH meeting, with all 3 recording pbs. Will Boutwood (coached out of club) ran just over 15 and a half minutes with Ben Findlay (coached out of club) just over the 16 min 20 sec mark and Marcus Green (coach Nick Anderson) completing the 12 and a half laps in just under 17 mins.
nAt the Southampton Open meeting lots of the club's athletes were in action. Going in race distance order, Poppy Shroff (coach Andy Fisher) got off to a great start in her 100m before limping home after pulling a muscle in the cold conditions. In the 200m, Leo Smith (coach Nick Anderson) looking for some speed work ran a pb of 26.85 as did Oliver Foden (U13 Academy) in his first run over the distance. There was a pb for Ruben Price (coach Nick Anderson) in his first run over 300m and in the 1 lap races there were pbs for Isabella Beck & Sam Roberts (both coached by Mike Chambers) and a season's best for training partner Doug Scally (coach Mike Chambers). In the 800m Oliver Foden got his 2nd pb of the day, as did Ethan Skipwith (coach Andy Fisher) in his first run at the distance. Ieuan Thomas & Harry Harvey (both coached by Nick Anderson) ran just outside their pbs and there was a new pb for Will Atkins (coach Nick Anderson). Casper Wilson and Aiden Furby (both coached by Nick Anderson) both laid down pbs in the 1500m as did Poppy Taylor & Stanley Parkinson (both coached by Nick Anderson) as well as Rose Chesterfield (coach Nick Anderson). Mike Chambers (self coached) got a season's best time just ahead of Lily Neate from his training group (coach Mike Chambers). Abi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) recorded good performances in high jump & shot put and Ethan Skipwith won the boys' shot put with a pb.
nSouthampton AC also organised a throws and jumps competition at Winchester in which 15 year old Grace Colmer (coach Andy Fisher) jumped as far as any WADAC woman in history by leaping out to 5.43m in the long jump, equalling Anna Newton's senior women's club record that has stood since May 2006. Harry Crosby (coach Andy Fisher) won the long jump event with Harry Pizzey and Claudia Hargreaves (both coached by Andy Fisher) recording season's best and personal best jumps respectively. Alex Miles (coached out of club) made a nice start to the season in the javelin going over 44m and Oliver Thatcher (coach Andy Fisher) recording a distance of 12.15m with the 6kg shot.
