Poppy smashes 20 year old club record

The initiative of introducing open meetings at the club is proving hugely popular and the athletes are bringing their A game to the track on these nights. This was displayed at last week’s open meeting when Poppy Taylor (coach Nick Anderson) took over 2 seconds off of Catriona Witcombe's U13 girls 800m club record that has stood for 20 years, by running 2 mins 22.89 secs.
n Other notable performances on the night included U17 man Harry Wilson (coach Nick Anderson) running just .13 outside of 2 mins for the 800m and his swallow dive over the line was just not enough to take the club record, but he moves to 3rd on the club’s all time list and he is running so well right now that the record is surely within his grasp.
nU15 girl Arabella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) continued her extraordinary season to go 2nd in the club’s all time 100m list and this places her in the club’s all time top 3 in no fewer than 7 different events.
nU11 boy Felix Sclater (U11 Academy) went 3rd in the club’s all time lists with a run of 1 min 53.34 secs in the quadkids 600m.
nIn the throws U20 man Sam Clifton (coach Jeremy Clifton) threw 52.48m for a new club record and this was particularly important as it ensured Sam kept a top 8 UK ranking, guaranteeing him a place in the National U20 champs the weekend after next. Training partner Tamsin Hoult (coach Martin McBriar) also threw a new club record of 32.53m.
nElsewhere, in midweek last Wednesday, Senior Man Stuart McCallum (coached out of club) ran just outside 3mins 45 secs for 1500m in Wimbledon showing he has lost none of his fantastic middle distance ability.
nAll the club’s records have been updated which is no mean feat these days as they are broken so often and look out for the club’s amazing results at the league matches over the weekend which will be appearing soon.
