Youngsters shine as sportshall resumes
After a break of 20 months, the Hampshire sportshall league resumed in Portsmouth on Sunday.This fast paced indoor format is the competitive starting point for many of the clubs youngest athletes and the club was well represented taking the largest team of 26 young athletes to compete in the sportshall at the Mountbatten centre. The athletes competed across 4 age groups these being U11 boys & girls and U13 boys & girls with 4 athletes making up a scoring team.The U11 girls were represented by 6 girls with the 4 scorers being Lydia Francis in a fine 2nd place, Fleur Robinson 9th, Clarice Thorne-Henderson 10th and Imogen Allbut 11th which was good enough to win the team event on the day. Eleanor Dunn and Daisy Robinson completed the team.The U11 boys had a large team of 10 with the A team of Christopher Wood (joint 6th), Phoenix Vaughan (14th), Arthur Cooney (17th) and Ben Lee (23rd) coming home 3rd and the B team of Dominic Steel (25th), Henry Reynolds (joint 30th), Jude Bowyer (32nd) and Jack Sansome (42nd) finishing 8th. Luca Marchant and Oliver Reynolds completed the team.The U13 girls team were 2nd just behind New Forest Juniors with Lucia Bertacchini (2nd), Lily Flute (3rd), Poppy Crook (9th) and Esme Buchanan (11th).The U13 boys took the team event with Zac Reynolds also winning the individual event. He was joined on the winning team by Joel Stanton (3rd), Felix Bowyer (5th) & Josh Little (8th).
