WADAC junior triathletes at Chapel Tri Clubs' Aquathlon this weekend
This was the 3rd event in the South-Central Series which counts towards the Inter Regional Championships qualifying, so every result counts. For those not so competitive, a great day out at another welcoming local club event. Chapel Tri Club always put on a good event and super supportive, and this year didn’t disappoint with great weather too. The 20m pool at Hamble school makes for an interesting swim, with the older athletes swimming 400m and a whopping 20 lengths, followed by a transition along a path to the sports field. The course zig zags on the field which makes for great spectating as you see the whole of the course.
nT1 (age 9-10) started with a 160m swim and 1200m run. Owen Robinson was our sole competitor in this category and came in 2nd place. Owen joined the club recently after taking part in our aquathlon before Easter and entered this event at the last minute. A great debut at this level of racing.
nT2 (age 11-12) Theo Hoath (10th), Ben Phillips (13th), and Patrick Skipwith (26th) with a 260m swim followed by 1800m run.
nT3 (age 13-14) had the largest number of entrants and most of the IRC contenders.
nKali Ruffell-Moreira had a strong swim and run coming in 9th in a competitive field. Laura Speirs and Jess Perry followed, 19th and 22nd respectively.
nThe boys race turned out to be a great battle and exciting racing for the fastest boys in the category. Thomas Jennings, a strong regional swimmer exited the pool first 24 seconds ahead of Ruben Price, followed by Oscar Reynolds, Ethan Skipwith, Thomas Roberts, and Stanley Phillips. The spectators were treated to watching Ruben and Oscar battle it out on the field to catch Jennings on the line, and a win for Ruben. Stanley Phillips and Ethan Skipwith were also to battle it out with Stanley being the stronger runner on the day but Ethan beating him with a faster swim. Sam Wilkinson and Ben Carr also put in great efforts, coming in 20th and 25th.
nGreat racing, excellent company and roll on the next one.
