Commonwealth baton to visit the track
On Wednesday 6 July, Winchester will officially welcome the Baton for the Commonwealth Games, and to celebrate, Winchester City Council, in partnership with Everyone Active and the University of Winchester have organised a primary school sports festival for year 5 pupils, providing them with the opportunity to take part in a range of the Commonwealth sports.

n
nWadac is supporting this initiative by hosting the year 5 children at the track and putting on some fun activities. Other clubs will put on activities in the leisure centre and on the astro turf.
nThis event will start at 9:30am and will finish by 3.30pm.

nThe Queen’s Baton Relay team will visit the leisure centre and track at approximately 1.30pm. At this time, our Winchester Batonbearers will showcase the Baton at each activity, allowing pupils to be a part of something special.
nWhen the Baton arrives, coaches will stop their session as quickly as possible in a safe manner. Volunteers that are allocated to each school will then walk everyone to the entrance of the leisure centre. This will allow all pupils to see the Baton arrive at the leisure centre. Once they have welcomed the Baton to the site, they will make their way back to their activity. Our designated Batonbearers will then take charge of the Baton and make their way to each activity, taking part in each sport.
nThe Batonbearer will have 5 minutes with each school, and will take part in the activity involving the Baton as much as possible. After the 5 minutes, it will make its way to the next activity, ensuring all schools get the opportunity to see it close up.
n
n
n
nIt is anticipated that the baton will go around the track as part of this programme.
