RR10 IBM Hursley, Race 10 Results
What a fantastic end to the RR10 season. Winchester ladies A and B team finished first in their leagues. Our men's team finished 2nd in this race and overall 4th.
nWell done to everyone that ran. It seems like a long time ago when the first race of the season took place on 20th April, we had the whole summer ahead of us with still some uncertainty over COVID and the likelihood of a full season this year. We did it, 52 men and 31 ladies ran an RR10 race at some point this year for WADAC and as the autumn approaches we can now look keenly forward to the CC6 returning in October.
nIt was a hot evening that greeted us on Wednesday evening but fortunately some light rain during the race cooled the sizzling runners down. The course was beautiful and quite complex created by Eastleigh Running Club within the well kept grounds of IBM Hursley, now workplace to many IBM staff but in 1940 was central to the design and production of the Spitfire. The course was 2.5 laps and 4.6 miles long taking us around the playing fields, along the front of Hursley House and across the grass slope into the traditional finish outside the club house.
n22 men and 11 ladies ran at Hursley for the club, (241 men and 152 ladies overall) a few first appearances were very welcome and helped the fact that some of our usual runners were on holiday. Helen Hall won the ladies race, Ellie Swire 6th (the only club member to have run every race that we were eligible to, even returning and running one whilst elsewhere on holiday!) and Sarah Shedden 11th. Our ladies B team finished first too and comprised of Emma Carter 14th, Mikaela Price 20th and Caroline Carr 27th. Our strong men's team finished 2nd with George Porter 9th, Harry Harvey 12th, Harry Williams 15th, Dave Gaskell 17th and Jack England 18th.
nOur highest placed runner this season was Ellie Davies who finished 6th on the ranking table, beating 98.48% of all the female runners and Pete Sansome finishing 16th and beating 95.16% of male runners.
