Multi-eventers end the season in style
In the very last championship action of a long season, the clubs multi-eventers ended it in some style with a record 7 medal haul at the National schools combined event champs in Bedford at the weekend.Although not afforded the same coverage as its individual events cousin, this is the English schools champs for combined-events and like the English schools individual champs offers english schools vests for some top performers, in this instance the top 4 finishers in the junior (U15) & intermediate (U17) age groups.Arabella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) came 2nd in the U17W heptathlon going into the UK all time top 20 for the event and securing her 2nd England schools vest of the season which she will wear at the schools indoor combined event home international match in Glasgow in late November. Bella also won team gold as part of the winning Surrey team. Training partner Abi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) was 22nd and secured a seasons best performance in the javelin.Grace Colmer (coach Andy Fisher) took 3rd place in the senior girls heptathlon with her pb in the javelin moving her up the field on day two and her gutsy 800m run ensured she picked up the bronze medal.In the U17M age group Oscar Webb (coach Tony Bateman) finished 29th but was part of the Somerset team that won team bronze.In the U15G age group the club had 3 competitors all who collected a bronze medal as part of the Hampshire team that came 3rd. Rebekah Smith (coach Andy Fisher) finished 11th going over 5m for the first time in the long jump. Gracie Osman (coach Andy Fisher) was 13th and will be back in the same age group next year as will Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) who unfortunately picked up a thigh strain whilst high jumping and had to withdraw but nevertheless wins a bronze medal for her part in the Hampshire team.
