Fun in the Sun at the HRRL Gosport Half
The Gosport half is one of the most popular on the HRRL calendar - it's a flat, fast, scenic, coastal two-lapper with ample spectating opportunities that generally attracts a quality field pulling in runners from outside our normal Hampshire catchment.
n Perfect as long as it's not wet and windy.....this year we were lucky the rain passed over before the start and the wind wasn't all it was forecast to be so we ran in the sunshine with as much downwind as upwind.
nOur men were out in force with Chris Powner (4th overall, 70'28), Guy Brayn (73'04), Rich Bidgood (2nd in Age Cat, 75'45) and Ben Findlay (76'23) sweeping all before them to take the men's team prize. In a fantastic turnout our 'B' team were 4th and we fielded no fewer than 7 complete men's teams.
nFor once our ladies were shaded by the men....our team of Ruth Churchill (2nd in Age Cat, 87'18), Sarah Shedden (91'25), Claire Jackson (98'46) and Mikaela Price (101'12) coming 2nd this time.
nAs ever these results take time to percolate their way through to the HRRL league tables but we are riding high and it's great to see our faster athletes putting the HRRL events into their plans. Next up is the Victory 5mile on 4th December (a chance for the younger athletes to join in but please check with your coach before entering) but all the HRRL events fill up quickly so plan ahead to the events in the New Year.
