Alex goes indoors sub 50!
The South of England senior and U20 indoor champs took place at the weekend at Lee Valley and as seems normal these days at championship events, it was another historic day for the club.
n
nAlex Beck (coach Mark Upton) became the first WADAC athlete to run 2 laps indoors in under 50 seconds and in doing so won the bronze medal in the U20 mens 400m. After coming through both heat & semi-final on the same day, Alex ran 49.73 secs to take 3rd place. This was a couple of hundredths behind the club record he had set in his heat earlier in the day and Alex is looking in tremendous shape heading to the National age group champs in Sheffield at the weekend. Ollie Withers (coach Andy Fisher) qualified for the semi-final in the same event where he bowed out with a time of 52.26 ses in his heat. In the field for the U20 men, Gus Bowden (coach Andy Fisher) was 9th in the high jump with an indoor pb of 1.75m.
n
nAmy Wall (coach Andy Fisher) added to her medal collection by taking gold in the U20 womens long jump with a leap of 5.23m. This gold medal adds to Amy's burgeoning collection and means the club has so far taken a gold medal at all 3 indoor South of England championships this season with just the Masters champs to go on Sunday. Bethany Austin (coach Andy Fisher) ran her first ever 400m in a time of 64.23 to come 3rd in her heat and go straight to 3rd place on the clubs all time indoor U20 list.
n
nElsewhere at the weekend Kathryn Miles and Amanda Smith (both coached by Elias Mtshweni) ran a couple of 60m races at Eton on Sunday.
