Annie breaks British U18 record
Annie Mann (coach James Mann) made her Stateside debut on Saturday night competing in the star studded New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, part of World Athletics' indoor gold tour.
nThe Americans love a mile race rather than the preferred 1500m in Europe, and Annie competed amongst the best junior girls in the USA, UK & Ireland to finish 5th, as the top European, in a time of 4.53.85 secs. The mile is a rarely run distance in the UK, even more so indoors and even more so for the U18 age group so British Athletics statistician Ian Hodge kindly trawled the record books to find the current mark of 4.56.4 run by Pam Davis in Cosford in 1972 to confirm that Annie had set a new UK indoor U18 record.
nThe records didn't stop there for Annie as she passed the 1500m mark in 4 mins 34.01 secs and this breaks the club's indoor record currently held by Lucy Elliott. Annie's next race indoors will be the 1500m at the British indoor champs in Birmingham on the 18th & 19th February where a glance through the current entry list sees shows a who's who line up of British middle distance running talent.
