RR10 Race 6 Marwell, Results
Men's team take the win with George Belfield, our champion and the first runner to finish. Our ladies team came 2nd. Martyn West is the V70 champion as he has won his age category in all 6 races!
nIt was wonderful to be back at Marwell Zoo, the last time we ran this course was in 2016. The course ran along the same bridleways and footpaths as before but with small variations and in reverse. We started with a small lap of the carpark and then into the woods, a lap around a field of long grass then off and up the long incline to the highest point of the course. It was quite a technical course with plenty of tree roots (some had been helpfully marked up) and hopping up and down short sections into and out of woodland. We then entered into the 2nd field and could see the runners a long way ahead but also see some of the zoo buildings, easy to imagine that you were in another country at this point with so much thirsty looking grass. Then back into the woodland trails which were narrow and fun, overtaking spots needed to be carefully considered whilst negotiating the uneven ground. The signage then advised, right for the 2nd lap to do most of it all over again or left to the finish. It was a pleasure to bomb half way back to the finish funnel and then quite a shock to remember that the 2nd half was deceptively uphill. Tough.
nLast night enjoyed the 2nd highest number of runners this year, 503 in total comprising of 278 men, 225 ladies, 27 WADAC men and 14 ladies.
nOur men's team came first and was made up of George Belfield 1st, Wayne Bevan 7th, Paul Boyd-Leslie 12th, Pete Sansome 14th and Andy Costello 23rd. (Archie Ives did a cracking run and actually finished 6th but was not able to count due to the new rules of no parkrun barcode = no results. A tough lesson to us all but luckily the men were still fast enough to take the win).
nOur ladies team came second, with Ellie Davies 2nd, Ellie Swire 3rd and Eve Bailey 9th.
nWe have come a long way this season with magnificent results, well done every single one of you. However, we need to keep pushing hard for the next 3 races that we are able to take part in. Our men are 2nd to Romsey by 1 point! We can improve this and clinch the win. Ladies team, we are joint 1st with Stubbington, lets smash this and win it.
