University of Winchester launch their first performance sport
Our partners at the University of Winchester have today confirmed the launch of a performance or elite sport to begin at the start of the next academic year in September. This is a first for a University not traditionally known for sports performance and we are delighted that they have chosen track & field to be this sport with our own Head of Track & Field Andy Fisher recruited as Head Coach to run the track & field elite sport programme. The programme will initially begin with a small number of athletes that have already been recruited but will grow again in 2024 with a view to reaching it's full compliment of around 15 athletes in 2025.Whilst the elite sport programme will not compete with Loughborough or Birmingham or some of the track & field scholorship opportunities in the States, it nevertheless provides an opportunity for young athletes to stay locally and continue to train within their existing groups as well as having access to the fantastic facilities on offer from the University.Look out for the new signs at the track and anyone interested should email elitesport@winchester.ac.uk or contact Andy directly.
