Abi finishes 7th at Nationals

Abi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) put in a fine performance at the first indoor national champs of the year, the national indoor combined events Senior & U20 champs in Sheffield on Saturday.

Competing on her 17th birthday and in a national champs as an U20 for the first time and therefore over the senior specifications Abi started the day with a pb of 9.60 in the 60m hurdles good enough for 11th place in the 19 woman field. Abi then jumped a 7cm pb of 1.63m in an oustanding High Jump performance which was the 3rd best on the day. Also 3rd best on the day was her shot where Abi putted 10.37m also for 3rd place and move her to 3rd place on the all time WADAC indoor rankings. Abi then had a disappointing long jump finishing 10th in the field with a leap of 5.12m and finished the day with an 800m of 2mins 34.58 secs which was 10th best on the day and all this added up to 7th place overall and 2nd in the Welsh U20 indoor combined events champs which took part as part of the same champs.

Abi’s points score of 3343 points moved her the 3rd place on the clubs all time indoor pentathlon rankings and she will be presented with her silver medal at the Welsh indoor individual champs in February.
