2024 Review September
The last month of the track & field season began with the South of England inter-counties champs with the U20’s in action on Saturday the 7th and the U15’s & U17’s on Sunday the 8th. On Saturday a number of WADAC athletes represented their counties in the U20 age group with Mia Judd (coach James Hind) winning the high jump and Jess Howells (coach Andy Fisher) breaking the clubs javelin record this time with the 600g spear. On the Sunday, there were wins for Elsie Brindle (coach Mark Upton) in the 400m and Darcey Thorne-Henderson (coach Martin McBriar) in the discus.
On Friday the 20th, the club put on it’s first ever throws open meeting which was attended by no other than olympian Lawrence Okoye and on the weekend of the 21st & 22nd September the last of the championship events of the season the National Schools Combined Events champs took place in Stoke. What a weekend for the club it was as Rebekah Smith (coach Dave McManus) and Seni Purnell (coach Andy Fisher) both secured top 3 finishes in their respective age groups therefore securing England schools vests at the indoor schools Home International Combined events match in November.
The season finished with the last of our open meetings on the 29th of the month and it was time fopr a rest from track & field after an astonishing season of representative honours from the clubs young athletes.
