CC6 season end

The eighth and final CC6 race took place (I know 8 into 6 does not go) at Wilveley last Sunday morning. As the competitors massed for the start we were greeted by a herd of ponies, but after a short delay we ran through the familiar gravel, fords and muddy terrain of the wonderful New Forest. The nine men of Winchester were led in by Joe Chick in 22nd, Stephen Lowy (46), Martyn West (53), Steve Cluett (58), Adrian Haughton (60), Julian Hamblin (69), Peter Watts (78), Lutz Preuss (87) and Tom Vamos (90). Well done, and we all richly deserved the tea and coffee stall set up by New Forest Runners, along with a groaning cake table. This season has been an up and down one for the club, for the women's team at least. Both teams came 5th (out of 17 clubs), but the ladies title challenge melted away after the sixth round, falling from first position to fifth in 2 rounds! 7 athletes completed 4 or more races, with Pete Sansome leading the Winchester men coming 12th overall and Martyn West retaining his V60 title. Well done. Full results here.It all begins again next autumn, in the meantime you can put away your trail shoes.
