Hampshire Track & Field Championships
The Hampshire T&F Championship was once again held over two days at the traditional venue of the Mountbatten Centre Track in Portsmouth. Winchester & District Athletic Club (WADAC) athletes competed in good numbers in fact WADAC had the second best number of athletes entered behind Southampton.

nThe club came away with a superb total medal haul of 38 County Medals but there were many really good performances with athletes achieving Personal Best to make finals.

nFollowing on from her Championship Best Performance from the previous year in the Under 17 womens 300m Abigail Dennison was determined to retain her title. She did this with a powerful display of running to win the race in 40.82 with teammate Maddie Turner running bravely to gain 3rd place in 42.99. Abigail wasn’t content to just to win one title she came back the following day to take the U17W 200m title in 25.41 in a exciting race with Grace Reid breaking her PB to run 26.84 for a fine 5th position in the final. Grace placed 5th in the 300m in a time of 43.36 for very consistent performance.

nIn the U20 Women Field Isobel Gray once again showed her immense talent by winning the Discus with a throw of 37.38m and also leaping to victory in the U20W Long Jump with a distance of 5.42m which as well as being a PB it was a qualifying distance for the prestigious English Schools Championships.

nJosh Goble was another double event winner by winning both the level jumps taking the Long Jump with a fine leap of 6.70m and then Triple Jumping 13.57m to also take that title. WADAC took a clean sweep of the U20M jumps when Glen Foster won the High Jump with a lofty height of 2.00m.

nJames Heneghan put on an excellent show of middle distance running with a win the U20M 1500m in 4.02.8 showing no ill effects from his run the previous day where he outran his opponents in the 3000m in 8.52.2.

nIn the Senior Men 800m race Ben Healey ran a fine tactical run to win the title in a very fast 1.56.9, timing his winning surge to perfection.

nThe ever consistent Ed Hill-King threw the U20M Hammer a distance of 33.93m to claim the title. In the younger U15B category in the Hammer Sam Clifton threw a fine a distance of 35.88 to claim 2nd place he was also 4th in the Shot with 9.60m. Also in the throws things look rosy for WADAC in the younger age group as there were wins for Dan Kimber in the U13B Shot with 7.65m and also Sam Mballa in the U13B Discus with a throw of 16.26m. Sam was also 6th in the 70m Hurdles and 5TH in the Long Jump with 4.05m

nIn the U15G 300m Lauren Fall looked dominant in the heat in a time of 44.14 and then sprinted home in the final in 43.38 over two seconds clear to win the title convincingly.

nSophie Ridley hurdled her way to a victory in the U20W 100m Hurdles race in a time of 15.14 and Zoe Holley was successful in the U7W Pole Vault with a height of 2.40m.

nIn addition to her third place in the flat 300m Maddie Turner ran a strongly in the U17W 300m hurdles race to obtain 2nd position in a time of 46.4. The Hurdles races were a good source of medals for WADAC as in the first race of the Championship Daniel Thomas achieved 2nd in the U17M 400m hurdles in 59.21. In the shorter 110m Hurdles event WADAC gained fantastic silver medals through Charlie Brown U17M 14.48 and Kanya Mtshweni U20M 15.11. Adding to his Shot Gold Dan Kimber was 2nd in the U13B 70m Hurdles race.

nDoug Scally has been excelling at both Cross Country and Sportshall recently and now he is proving his talent on the Track as he improved his PB to 2.12.7 in the U15B 800m for an impressive 2nd position in his fist year in this age category.

nThe Javelin event produced two second podium position through Heather Mballa in the Senior Womens with 26.01m, her son Sam had won the U13B Discus event. Heather was also 4th in the Discus with 27.90m. The other Javelin Silver was won by Alex Miles in the U15B with a throw of 34.52m, Alex’s mother Kathryn also took part in the Senior Womens 100m race placing 5th. In the U13B Javelin Finlay Wrey-Brown gained a brilliant Bronze with a throw of 23.12m. Emily Serridge in the U20W Javelin threw a distance of 33.11m to also earn a Bronze medal.

nSerena Charles who had competed at both the 80m Hurdles and 100m events where she reached the semi final was successful in the U15G Shot as she threw a PB distance of 9.86m for 2nd place in a very strong field.

nThe High Jump at WADAC at U13 and U15 level is looking good as both Emma Shedden 1.30m and Ruben Burrows 1.40m won superb silvers at U13 and Emily Smith a 3rd position in the U15G event with a leap of 1.50m. Showing his jumping prowess Ruben Long Jumped 4.09m for 3rd place in a large field of 22 athletes. Ruben also made the final of the 100m where he placed 5th capping a very good weekend for him.

nComing back from injury India Leon ran very well to achieve a time of 26.99 in the Senior Women 200m for a well deserved Silver medal. Also in the Senior sprints Shakira Martin was 4th in the 100m in a time of 13.13.

nIn the sprints Amy Dawes had a noteworthy weekend with an exciting Bronze in the U15G 100m running a PB of 12.93 and then returning the next day to place 4th in the 200m final in another PB of 27.18, running six races over the weekend with heats and semis. Also in the 100m Dan Stoller, coming back from injury ran a very strong race to gain 3rd position in a time of 11.21 in the U20M category with Ryan Cousins placing 7th in that final. Ryan had the previous day won a Bronze in the U20M 200m in a fast time of 23.21.

nPole Vaulter Charlie Maw managed a height of 4.00m for a well deserved Bronze in the Senior Mens Pole Vault event.

nIn the U13G 70m Hurdles race Beth Thorpe was very close to a medal in finishing 4th in a time of 12.18, also making the final was Emma Shedden who placed 7th in 12.78. Olivia Busher was also very near a medal as she threw the Javelin 25.54m for 4th in the U13G event, Olivia was 6th in the Discus with 18.67m.
n Sam Bradshaw was 5th in the U13B 75M Hurdles race in 16.24 and he also High Jumped 1.15m for 5th. Calum Emmans gained 4th in the U13B Shot with 5.64m with team mate Ned Wolfe 5th with 5.20m. Aisling Dunne 5th and Hannah Foster 7th both ran strong races in the U15G 1500m gaining PB times. Isabella Beck reached the final of the U15G 800m and placed 8th running a PB in the heat. Grace Mann ran a solid race for 5th in the U17W 1500m 5.12.3 with Alice Calder 6th 5.14.8. Ellie Livingstone was 4th in the U17W 80m Hurdles in 13.35 as well as 6th in 300n Hurdles. Andrew Stanfield made the final of the U15B 100m where he placed 8th in 12.57 as well as 4th in the 300m. Iwan Wrey Brown was 6th in U15B 200m in 25.76. Sam Roberts progressed to the U15B 800m for 8th in 2.28.5. James Medley ran strongly for 4th in the U15B 3000m in 10.39.2 and Zachary Sherry was 5th in the 80m Hurdles in 17.11. Toby Jeffes threw the Javelin 30.41m for 5th in the U15B Javelin. Dan Thomas ran a solid 400m in the U17M event for 5th in 53.54 and Tom Mannion was a fine 5th in the U17m 800m in 2.08.35 with team mate Toby Woods 6th in the longer 3000m in 9.49 and Oli Bulpett Steeplechasing to 4th in the 1500m event in 5.07.9
