YDL Lower Age Group Match 1 Portsmouth
The first Track and Field Athletics match of the season for the Youth Development League (Lower Age Group) took place at the Mountbatten Centre Portsmouth. Winchester & District Athletic Club Under 13 & Under 15 athletes were competing against teams from Chichester, Havant, Walton, Woking and Bournemouth/New Forest Juniors. The overall result was a superb 2nd place out of the six teams in the match.

nIn the Under 13 girls category there were several really good performances from athletes in their first year in the age group. Emma Shedden who has done well at both Cross Country and Sportshall showed that she is just as talented at Track & Field with wins in the Long Jump with a leap of 3.83m and victory in the B 70m Hurdles race which achieved AAA Grade 4 standard. Emma also High Jumped 1.29m for 2nd place which was also a G4 standard. Beth Thorpe ran a smooth 12.7 in the 70m hurdles A race for victory (G4) and ran well in the 75m and 150m sprints. Olivia Busher threw a Personal best (PB) of 27.51m to win the Javelin and improved her Shot best to 6.50m to win that event as well. Backed up in the Javelin & Shot was Jasmine Jones who threw PB’s of 12.76m Javelin and 5.34m Shot gaining 2nd place in the both B events. Jasmine also ran a PB in the 800m for 3rd. The duo of Grace Tugwell 3rd A and Daisy Dennis 2nd B 5.12.6 gained useful points in the 1200m race. The quartet of Beth Thorpe, Emma Shedden, Connie Brush and Ellie McErlean ran well for 3rd position in the 4x100 relay in 61.4.

nAmy Dawes sprinted to an impressive win the in a very competitive U15G 200m A race in 27.7, Amy also ran 13.8 for 4rd in the 100m A race. She was supported by Serena Charles 2nd 14.1 in the short sprint and Megan Heal 29.8 4th 200m B (PB). The foursome of Dawes, Charles, Holly Pilkington & Ella Popowicz won the 4x100 relay with ease. Lauren Fall dominated the 300m A race winning in a PB of 42.4 almost 3 seconds ahead of her nearest rival. Sophie Torrance ran a PB of 48.6 for 3rd position in the 300m B race after 4th place in the 800m A in another PB 2.38.6. Lily Neate ran 2.46.2 in the 800m B race for a PB. In the 1500m Aisling Dunne showed great front running and led from gun to tape to win and was backed up by Hannah Foster who won the B race. Ella Popowicz hurdled well for 2nd in the 75m hurdles race. In the Field Holly Pilkington jumped 4.26m for 4th in the Long Jump A with Molly Whitton in her first competition for WADAC jumping 3.63m 2nd B. Olivia Jones managed 1.36m for a PB in the High Jump for 3rd. Serena Charles threw 8.80m for 4rd in the Shot A with Catherine Mulder throwing 7.00m for 2nd B. Emily Weeks assisted with points in the Hurdles, Discus and relays.

nSam Clifton was the top performer for WADAC in the U15B category with a trio of wins in the Hammer A 32.91m (G4),Shot A 9.62m and Discus 21.58m. Also in the throws Alex Miles threw the Javelin 35.10m for 2nd position and was 3rd Discus A 24.58m. Doug Scally performed very well for 3rd in a fast 800m A race in 2.13.0 plus gaining points in the Long Jump 4.36m and 300m sprint. Jonathan Eadie jumped well for 2nd position in the Long Jump 4.14m and 4th in the High Jump with 1.40m. In the sprints Andrew Stanfield was 3rd A 200m 26.2 and Ben Dunn 4th B 29.2

nIn the Under 13 boys Dan Kimber ran strongly to win the 70m hurdles in 13.7 and also threw the shot Shot 6.83m for victory. Ruben Burrows had a busy time with 2nd Long Jump 4.23m (G4) , High Jump 2nd 1.30m A and 100m A with 14.7. Theo Harvey jumped 1.25m to win the B High Jump event plus 3rd A 23.74m in the Javelin. Charlie Kyle 2.34,7 and Arthur Chambers 2.44.22 both achieved 3rd places in the 800m race. Billy Brackley 100m B 14.9 and Ned Wolfe 31.4 200m B were other noteworthy performances.
