Wessex League Winchester Match 2
nWinchester & District Athletic Club (WADAC) hosted the second match of the Wessex Young Athletes League at the Bar End Track. WADAC were up against opposition from Oxford, Isle of Wight, Slough Juniors , Wimborne and Poole Runners in the Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 categories.

nWADAC took full advantage of being at home and won the match which leaves them equal first in the 25 strong League with two matches remaining.

nGrace White ran very well in the U13G sprints with AAA Grade 4 (G4) performances in both the 100 & 200m. Grace ran 14.3 to win the 100m B race and 29.6 in the 200m A for 2nd, both times were PBs. Grace also helped the 4x100m relay team also including Beth Thorpe, Emma Shedden and Jess Marinus, to 2nd place in a fast time of 58.6. Beth Thorpe again won her 75m hurdles race with a time of 12.1 which is an impressive G2 performance, she was again backed up by Emma Shedden 2nd B in 13.2 (G4). In the U13G Javelin Olivia Busher again threw superbly winning the event with a distance of 29.07m which is a G1 performance. Olivia also gained good points in the Shot A in 3RD with 5.47m. In the U13G middle distance races WADAC won some useful points with Lara Bassett 2.45.6 2nd A and Aisling Hitchman 2.49.7 1st B both G3 performances. In the longer 1200m race Rose Chesterfield ran well for 2nd A in 4.08.7 with Jasmine Jones running 4.29.4 for 2nd B.

nSasha Tydeman front ran the U15G 1500m race to win easily in 5.03.9 with Aisling Dunne running a solid 5.10.2 1st B for an excellent double win. Ella Popowicz showed her improvement this season with victory in the 100m B race in 14.3 and also a battling 2nd place in the 75m hurdles A race in 13.4. Megan Heal ran well for 2nd in the 200m A race in 29.1 plus running a leg in the 4x100 relay along with Alice Claisse, Freya Brannigan and Holly Pilkington achieving 2nd in 56.0 In the Field, Holly Pilkington leapt to an easy victory in the U15G Long Jump with 4.38m and was joined in a double win by Emily Weeks who jumped 4.16m for 1st B, Holly also threw the Discus 13.60m for 2nd B. Emily Smith High Jumped 1.54m to take the win in the U15G category (G2) with Olivia Jones jumping 1.35m for 2nd B. There were consistent results on the Track with Alice Claisse 3rd 200m B 30.3, Sophie Torrance 3rd 300m A 48.5 & Lily Neate 2nd 300m B 49.3. Isabella Beck ran a new PB in the 800m a of 2.34.9 for 2nd. Alina Eichhorst accumulated good points in the U15G throws with victory in the Javelin A 28.20m (G3) and Discus A 22.89m.

nAndrew Stanfield had a busy day with strong victorious runs in the U15B 100, 200 & 300m races. He ran 12.5 in the 100m, 25.3 in the 200m and 40.1 for 300m the latter being a G3 performance. Andrew was not the only U15B to gain 3 wins, Alex Miles in the throws did the same feat with Javelin 33.90m (G4), Discus 23.22m and Shot 8.46m. Lucas Pasche put the Shot 6.81m to take 2nd B. In the 1500m James Medley ran well to record a time of 4.51.3 for 2nd place A with Ren Foley ably assisting with 1st B in 5.11.0. Jonathan Eadie High Jumped 1.45m to gain 2nd in that event as well as helping the 4x100 relay team to 3rd with Andrew Stanfield , Tom Gudino and Christian Cumming.

nIn the U13B throws there were fabulous double wins for Sam Mballa 14.70m A and Euan Holm 11.65m in the Discus and Finlay Wrey-Brown 24.59m and Jake Pasche 16.41m in the Javelin. Charlie Kyle outsprinted his rivals to win the U13B 800m A race in 2.35.6 with Finlay Wrey-Brown running 2.43.6 for 2nd B. Michael Shingleton-Smith produced a G4 performance of 5.09.1 to win the 1500m B race with Ben Chesterfield 3rd A in 5.07.8 (G4). Ned Wolfe won the High Jump with a leap of 1.25m plus gaining points in the sprints. Connor Dutton put the Shot 6.22m for 2nd A with Jake Pasche 4.74m.

nThere were wins for Maddie Turner 42.1 300m ; 80m hurdles A 12.8, Ellie Livingstone 80m hurdles B 13.3, Alice Calder 5.10.8 1500m A, Emily Coulson 5.43.7 1500m B Abigail Woollett Long Jump B 4.24 in the U17W section.

nJackkapon Khongkhao ran 25.00 to win the U17M 200m A race with Charlie Brown 2nd B in 25.1. Charlie was also 2nd in the 100m B 12.6 and 2nd A 14.8 in the 100m hurdles. Dan Thomas ran 12.00 2nd 100m A as well as gaining good points in the Discus & Javelin. Lucas Lyne ran 54.5 in the 400m A race for 2nd. The quartet of Brown, Lyne, Thomas and Andrew Rothwell won the 4x100 relay in 48.7.

nIn the separate Under 11 Quad Kids competition WADAC were 2nd overall behind Wimborne but remain 1st in the League after two matches. In the Boys event Mat Grote 8th James Lewis 9th and Musa Sanyang 10th were WADAC’s best performers. Caitie Croft continued her fine season with 4th place overall in the Girls section with Grace Weeks 9th and Safiya Hussain 10th.

nThe next match is at Oxford on 2nd July where WADAC is hoping to consolidate their good start.
