National Duathlon Championship and Sprint Duathlon

On Saturday 26 January the England Standard Distance Duathlon and 2020 European Championship qualifier was held at Ashridge House in Hertfordshire. On a hilly and difficult course, Simon Stevens won silver medal in the 50-54 category and gets automatic qualification. Tim Smales was in 25th overall following a bout of illness, tenth in the 35-39 category. The following day the Sprint Distance qualifier was held. In considerably colder and windier conditions, Marius Kwint finished 4th in the 50-54 category. But for a problem finding the venue and therefore missing the news that transition was neutralised (i.e. times not counted) due to slippy conditions, he might have spent longer getting and returning his bike and would surely have beaten two of those in front of him who took 3-4 minutes longer changing over (but were less than a minute ahead at the finish)!
