Biathlon - juniors competition
35 competitors attended the WADAC Junior Triathlon group Biathlon last weekend. We were treated to another sunny day at the Army Training Regiment in Winchester and the performances didn’t disappoint either. The event was a summer finale for the group and an opportunity to welcome new members to a multi-discipline event. We decided to run it as a Biathlon to enable a mass start and staggered pool entry with distances ranging from 800 run 50 swim 800 run for the 9-10-year olds to 800 run 300 swim 1600 run for the 13-14-year olds. The children gave it everything which was great to see and the spectators enjoyed a few head to head battles to the finish line, especially Harry Harvey and Harry Wilson in the T3 race. Pacing for these events and swimming hard after a full on 800-meter run effort is something that many of them had never done before. Dealing with transition and counting laps in the pool as well as the run – so much more to remember than a pure running or swimming event.
nA big thank you to all the parents who volunteered on the day and made running the event so much easier, ATR for allowing us to use the base and all the children for braving a new discipline.
nSpecial mention to the winners:
