WADAC are Wessex Track & Field League Champions for 2019

Winchester & District Athletic Club (WADAC) won the final Wessex Young athletes Track & Field League match at Winchester to maintain their 100% record of the season. This meant that WADAC became League Champions for the first time in the history of the League since its inception in 1989. WADAC beat teams from Oxford, Newbury, Slough Juniors, Salisbury & Marlborough.
nEmma Shedden had a brilliant day in the Under 15 girls section with three wins to her name. Emma won the 75m hurdles A race in 12.9, backed up by Alice Eyssens, 1st B in 13.0. Emma then won an exciting 800m race in 2.26.3 and then came home first in the 300m B race in 45.9. Aisling Hitchman supported in the 800m by winning the B race in 2.31.3.

nJasmine Jones won the U15G 1500m B race in 5.17.8 and showed her versatility by the throwing the Shot 8.32m for 2nd B. In her club debut Tobi Akindeinde threw the Shot 9.04m (G3) for 2nd A. Also in the field Olivia Busher won the Javelin with 35.86m and was 2nd in the Discus A 24.95m, Jess Marinus won Discus B 21.25m.

nIn the U15G sprints there were useful points gained by Daisy Shaw, India Kingsland, Evie Beck and Leihaana Amonoo-Kuofi.

nOscar Webb and Ben Berwick impressed in the U13B jumps by taking a clean sweep of wins. Oscar had 1st Long Jump 4.70m (G2) and 1st High Jump (G1) A 1.50m and Ben 1st B LJ 4.37m (G4) and 1st B HJ 1.45m (G2). Oscar also took the 75m hurdles in 14.00 backed up by Orlando Hutchinson 1st B 14.7. In the sprints Timon Francis was a close 2nd in the 100m A race in 14.5 with Philip Cain winning the B race in 14.2. Musa Sanyang ran very well for 1st B 200m in 29.5. The foursome of Philip Cain, Ben Berwick, Musa Sanyang and Timon Francis won the 4x100 relay in 55.9.

nIn the absence of James Lewis, Stan Parkinson took his chance well and won the U13B 1500m race in 4.48.4. In the throws Ruben Price 1st Shot B 5.13m, Andrew Griffin Discus 1st B 14.79m and Andrew White 1st A Javelin 27.38m (G3) added some useful points.

nErin McBriar and Lauren Richards have become a formidable duo in the U13G throws this season. This time Erin won the Discus 24.13m (G1) and 1st B shot 7.79m and Lauren was 2nd Shot A 7.81m and 1st B Discus 17.50m (G4). Isabel Ord jumped very well in the U13G High Jump for 2nd A with a G1 performance of 1.40m with Amy Porter 1st B 1.25m.

nThe diminutive Zara Barker had a strong run in the 1200m for 2nd A 4.13.0 and also in the U13G middle distances Safiya Husain won the 800m B in 2.41.6. There was an unfortunate injury to Betti Smith which meant she had to pull out of the U13G sprints but Alice Clegg ran well to win the 200m B race in 30.1, also gaining points in the 100m and Long Jump. Grace Weeks gave her usual fine performances in the 70m hurdles and 200m.

nThere was a WADAC club record achieved in the U15B 4x100 relay with a rapid 48.2 with Dan Kimber, Ed Bruce, Matt Dean and Toby McLauchlan being the team. Ed and Toby shared some valuable points in the 100m and 200m between them. There were double wins in both the U15B 800m and 1500m races. Sam Evans 2.14.9 and Ollie Withers 2.18.2 were the 800m victors and Ben Chesterfield impressing to win the 1500m in 4.50.7 and Michael Shingleton-Smith 1st B 4.51.6.

nDan Kimber powered his way to a win in the 80m hurdles in 11.9 and was 1st B Shot 9.40m. Finlay Wrey-Brown threw magnificently to win the Javelin 35.52m and Discus 29.97m. Charlie Elford-Pond also gained U15B throws points 1st A Shot 9.74m and 1st B Discus 28.49m. Ruben Burrows leapt well to win the High Jump with 1.70m.

nThe U17W quartet of Lucy Spurrier, Emily Weeks Alice Claisse and Grace Griffiths won the 4x100 relay. Lucy had won the 300m A race in 44.5. Alice won the 100m B race in 14.5. Grace won points in the 100m and Long Jump. Emily was 1st B 80m hurdles 14.3.

nEmily Smith won the 80m hurdles A in 13.3 and jumped 1.52m in the High Jump but was unfortunately spiked in the 800m.

nSophie Torrance had a good double win in the 200m B 30.8 and 300m B 49.3 plus 2nd B in the Shot. Serena Charles returning from injury threw 9.49m (G4) for 2nd A. Aisling Dunne eased her way to victory to win the 1500m in 4.57.4. Alina Eichhorst won the U17W Discus with 22.71m.

nIn the U17M category Sam Clifton won throws events away from his favoured Hammer with successes in the Shot 11.37m and Javelin 25.13m. Ben Thomas won the 110m A 12.1 and Long Jump 6.14m (G3). Iwan Wrey-Brown won the 100m B in 12.3. In the 1500m Jams Medley was 2nd A 4.36.0 with Daniel Teape close behind in 4.36.8 1st B. The team of Ben Thomas, Iwan Wrey-Brown, Luc Pearce and Daniel Teape won the 4x100 relay.

nThe WADAC Quad Kids also won their match to finish top team in the Quad kids section to make it a very successful season for the club. Poppy Taylor was 1st girl overall and broke the club record for the Vortex throw with a distance of 31.34m. Lucia Bertacchini was 3rd and Orla Edgecombe 4th. Felix Bowyer was best placed WADAC boy in 4th with Zac Reynolds 5th.
