Juniors in action on the first day at the South of England Champs

It was pleasing to see on the first day of the competition we had 7 winchester athletes turning out for us following their selection to compete against some of the best athletes in the South of England region. This compares to only one athlete last year on both days.
nAll athletes put in some solid performances in circumstances which are very new to them including the call room. The performances today were:
nGrace Weeks in action in the 200m and 70mH in the u13 age group. She managed 5th in the final of the 70mH and just missed out on the 200m final by 0.35 secs but did manage to beat around half the field with her time on the day (29.88 secs)
nThe other athletes put in good performances again just missing out on the finals including Dan Kimber in the u15 80mH (12.28 sec) missing out by 0.04 sec and Betti Smith u13 100m (14.76 sec) missing out by 0.26 sec.
nFinlay Wrey Brown threw 36.97m in the u15 javelin to take 8th place but he is still in the lower age group so this is encouraging for next year.
nIn action in the u17 girls 300mH was Rebecca Mitchell (51.19 secs) who beat her PB on the day and Emily Weeks (58.14 secs).
nFinally, Edward Bruce ran in the u15 boys 200m race and managed a time of 25.91 secs in the heats.
