Winchester juniors key to Hampshire successes at Southern Inter-Counties XC
Fifteen Winchester juniors, the largest contingent from any one club, were selected for the Hampshire Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 teams for the SEAA inter-counties fixture at Horspath, Oxford. Hampshire's teams enjoyed a very successful day against teams representing nine other counties, with four out of the six junior teams coming home with medals.
nPride of place went to the Under-15 girls, where a combination of WADAC and Southampton AC runners completed a comfortable team win for Hampshire, with Rose Chesterfield (6th), Amelia Moore (11th), Millie Burgess and Ellie McErlean as the Winchester contingent. The Under-13 boys can consider themselves extremely unfortunate not to have recorded a further team win, with a drop-out mid-race costing them the title, instead finishing third team. All the Hampshire scorers were WADAC athletes, James Lewis (2nd), Stan Parkinson (6th), Jack Moores (11th) and Ieuan Thomas (37th), with Ruben Price also well-placed.
nIn the other races : Hampshire's Under-17 women were silver medalists, with Lily Neate continuing her excellent form in 2nd place, accompanied by club-mates Isabella Beck, Aisling Dunne and Hannah Foster, and the Under-15 boys finished as fifth team, with Harry Wilson and Ben Chesterfield prominent.
