Harestock Handicap Results - February 2020
We had 20 runners out to contest the February Handicap including 3 event newbies in Jack Roland, Joy Wan and Kirsty Scragg. There was close racing through the field with 12 runners meeting or beating their handicaps and 11 in the thrilling blanket finish of a handicap race.
nLouise Claxton stormed round to win comfortably and remain oblivious to the contest unfolding behind her as our faster runners carved their way through the pack. The final outcome was an entertaining mix of differing speeds chasing for the line down the home straight. Thomas Bosley came through to take second whilst Mikaela Price held strong to hold off all the others and take a well deserved third.
nFastest on the night was Thomas Bosley whose new PB of 6'24 moves him up to No28 on the all-time honours board. Jack Roland on debut posted 6'32 and is a new entry at No38 whilst Andy Costello continues to improve and his new PB of 6'34 moves him up to No43. Thrilling to have such close racing at the sharp end and yet to have the handicap system keep them in their place!
nAs regards the overall standings it's far too early to comment but history shows that you have to be in it to win it and the more often you take part the more chance you have. All that said Mark Craven, Steve Cluett and Sarah Aldridge are off to a good start but anyone - even an outright newbie turning up for the very first time - could still win.
nFinally a special mention and thanks to Mark Craven and Big Steve Lowy for running the session and for making their debuts as handicappers - cheers guys.
nThe March 2020 Handicap will be, as ever, on the first Thursday of the month...the 5th March - SteveO will be taking the session.
nMeet at the track 18.45 for 19.00.....by special arrangement you can meet us up there at the Stoney Lane bus-shelter just after 19.20 or so. All welcome we can make up suitable handicaps for newbies on the night.
nFinally finally just a heads up that April - on the 2nd April 2020 - will be the 100th running of the Harestock Handicap - it would be great to have a good turnout for that special event so please put it in your diaries.
