Harry flies to take Covid Games title
The South of England championships traditionally take place at the end of August for the U15 & U17 age groups with the senior's and U20's competing earlier in the season. In this strangest of seasons, this hasn't been possible so the organisers should be congratulated for combining both age groups and holding a limited number of events in the Covid games at Chelmsford over the weekend.
nWADAC were represented in multi-events and throws and Harry Crosby was the star performer with an enormous jump of 7.20m to take the U17 mens long jump title on Saturday. This was Harry's 2nd jump in a tremendous series of 4 jumps all over the 6.70m mark and on a windy day he went on to run a pb of 11.78 in a 100m heat later in the day. Whilst the wind was too strong for it to be a legal jump in record breaking terms, to put the jump into context, it is the 19th furthest jump in UK history for this age group.
nFellow multi-eventer and training partner Oliver Thatcher also had a day to remember on the Sunday with a pb of 6.73m to come 6th in the U20 mens long jump which was preceeded by a pb of 11.42 in his 100m heat. Oliver had competed in the throws on the Saturday and was a little disappointed with his efforts of 36.92m for 5th place in discus and 11.68m for the same place in shot.
nAlso competing was U15 girl Erin McBriar who impressed with a pb of 8.90m for 9th place in the shot putt on Saturday and then threw 25.58m for 6th place in the discus on the same day.
