WADAC flying high in rankings
Whilst rankings should always be viewed with context with some events being more competitive than others it is neverthless important that WADAC celebrates its recent success in the small amount of events that have been allowed since the track and field season restarted. It's no secret that the club wants to increase its senior section and also increase the number of high performing athletes in the senior, U20 & U17 age groups in track and field but this will be built on the foundation of quality coaching in the younger age groups and the support of our fantastic masters section of the club which has always been strong.
nWADAC currently has no fewer than 13 event rankings in the UK age group top 10 with the range of events much broader than in the past thanks largely to the work of throws head coach Martin McBriar who is building am impressive team of coaches and young athletes that they support.
nMoira West (self coached) is our current rankings leader, heading the V70 womens rankings in the 200m and Moira shows that age is no barrier to success having broken numerous club records in the 15 years she has been at the club.
nWe have 3 young athletes at UK number 4 in their respective events these being U17W Liv Busher (coached out of club) who occupies this spot for the javelin with another year in the age group to go. Also at number 4 is U15B Charlie Elford Pond (coach Jeremy Clifton) who is having a tremendous end of season with the Hammer and U17M Harry Crosby (coach Andy Fisher) who is at number 4 in the Long Jump.
n3 masters athletes account for another 5 UK top tens with Kathryn Miles (coach George Ogilvie) at number 6 in the V45 womens rankings for 60m & 100m and at number 9 for 200m. Dave Roberts (coach Ernie Chambers) is at number 7 for the V50 mens rankings for Triple Jump and Sue True (coach Dave Vosser) is at no 9 for the V40 womens rankings in the 1500m.
n 3 throwers and a jumper bring the number up to 13 in total with Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) at number 9 in the U15 girls hammer rankings, Abi McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) at number 6 in the U13 girls discus rankings with Beth Mbala (coach Heather Sheffield) at number 10 in the same rankings. Lara Scott-Rule (coach Andy Fisher) is 7th in the U17 womens high jump rankings.
n In addition to this, there are a further 14 event rankings for WADAC in the UK top 20 as follows. Dave Roberts V50M LJ, Jess Gordon U20W HJ, Sam Clifton U20M Hammer, Alex Miles U20M Javelin, Oliver Thatcher U20M 110mH & discus, Harry Crosby U17M 100mH, Erin McBriar U15G discus, Charlie Elford Pond U15B SP & Discus, Abi McBriar U13G javelin, Ethan Imhofe U13B SP & discus and Sam Nicholson U13B Discus.
